RE: can't believe no-one has mentioned..... Is he still sporting one of the football's most impressive ever taches?
RE: can't believe no-one has mentioned..... Clean shaven now I think. Will never forget his wind assisted 35 yarder at the kop end against Sunderland. One Friday night I think, if it hadn't hit the net it would have finished up in Monk Bretton !
Barnsley 4-3 Southampton Was a great game in the Prem. The only game we scored more than 2 goals in a game that season in the league.
RE: can't believe no-one has mentioned..... A hero for two reasons 1. Punching John Deehan on the coach back from Bramhall Lane 2. Punching Peter Nicholas at the first opportunity after he effectively finished the career of Gwyn Thomas ( the world's greatest living Welsh man, after Gruyff Rhys from the Super Furrie animals)
I thought it was graham roberts? Great shame about Thomas..tenacious to say the least. Double centurion with 201 apps & 18 goals. A player like Gwyn would not got amis today..non shall pass.
Cruelly stamped on by Chelsea ****** during 4-0 thumping? The like will rarely come again.
Heres a comment from a l**ds website..
Hardworking midfielder/defender who made the most of his limited talents by adding a large dose of tenacity and a great work-rate. He scored regularly in the reserves, but was frequently played in a defensive role in the first team and only bagged 3 goals in nearly 90 games. He was capped at U-21 level but picked up an injury on the one occasion he was selected for the full national squad. After his move to Barnsley, he became a real stalwart at Oakwell, and it was only after he broke a leg in 1989 that he started to drop out of the first team, finally leaving for Hull in 1990.
Here's Gwyn..not a looker though...
[img=http://www.leedsfans.org.uk/leeds/images/GThomas1.jpg]

Sheff Utd 0-1 Reds Promotion season. Day after my birthday. Super John gets the winner and I think we went top for Christmas. Oh did I drink!
6 of the best - games / events not results Liverpool 0-0 Barnsley
Barnsley 2-4 Ipswich
Barnsley 2-2 Swansea
West Ham 2-5 Barnsley
Barnsley 7-1 Hudds
Birmingham 0-4 Barnsley
Too many in fact though the memory of the Bradford promotion game brings a tear to the eye.

RE: Sheff Utd 0-1 Reds I took my now ex father in law to that game... and he's a blades fan. Double sweet victory. When was it that Saville scored a last minute winner at the pig sty... i remember getting up on the fence at that one. I think Meathead Whitehurst was playing for the blunts in that game.
81/82 Cup run All of those games stand out
Peterborough 6-0
Swansea 2-0 at home
Brighton 4-1
Man City 1-0 What a night!
Liverpool 0-0 and taking the lead at home beofre losing to the then European Champions!

Man City Game slipped my mind Oakwell packed to the rafters with 33,000 - Aylott bullet header?
They hit the post/crossbar with a stunner.
Brighton at home..Aylott scores from the just inside the halfway line / brewery byeline. He swung his leg back- I thought WTF....top corner.
Halcyon days...I dont get caught up too much in the promotion side as I thought the 81 side were by far the best I have seen...not complainin mindsthi!

RE: Man City Game slipped my mind The only time I can remember us being on Sportsnight - ran home to catch the highlights!
RE: Who was the man city defender with legs like popeye's arms? Can't remember was Kevin Bond playing for them - Cayton maybe?
