RE: City status? Again?

I think you will find that Barnsley was invited to apply in 1999, but declined the offer.

We don't need an airport - close enough to travel to Donny and East Midlands, major international airport (Manchester) just over a hour away, I'm fascinated with this fixation some people have with having an airport - we've got good access to airports which is all that matters.

Thats as close to the Premiership as you'll ever get...

standing on your own two feet anyway. Unless Mr Ryan does a Wigan and has a horde of Galacticos on daft money playing in front of 5,000. It'll be hollow victories from then on. Anyroads Doncaster and Barnsley can agree on one thing, no pits anymore.

RE: stuck in the past

I live in Barnsley and totally agree with Donny Red, BMBC are inept. Many people hark on about Barnsley being shafted by Maggie with the closure of the pits. Donny and Wakefield where affected too but seem to have takne their towns/cities forward and regenerated new businesses/industry and even the leisure industry.

Can't even go to the cinema in Barnsley now as it has just closed down, whereas Donny & Wakey have built leisure and entertainment facilities. That means folk from Barnsley have to travel outside the area to go to the cinema...jeez that's money, jobs and wealth lost to other areas cos BMBC ain't the forsight to take the lead or at least do the same. As far as I know they have been arguing the toss about a cicnema complex for yonks now and still can't make a decision.

Listen Pikey,
The only reason you have an airport is because the land its built on is worth Zilch whereas Gods Country is far too expensive to build on. Anyway you got the tarmac done cheap by all the 'kin Thievin Gypsy ***tards that your towns FULL of!!

Couldn't agree more

Donnie fans = the new Wendy fans. Superiority complex (although they're not). I used to like Donnie after what happened to them and always looked for their result, now I hope their arrogant chairman (trading off peoples insecurities) big headed manager and fans drown in a vat of donkey do dos !![IMG]

PS give me a Miller anytime, they have a better sense of perspective !

RE: stuck in the past

Hope your fans learn some new songs for the new stadium then instead of 25 numpty's, all of about the age of 14, singing **** like

"1.0 to the referee" (when it was the most blatant penalty ever);

and

"Rovers till I die" (Shitty Bradford song)

.... very, very embarrassing and they could only be heard cos the cameras were on top of the shed that they were stood in!

Enjoy your moment, just be glad that

- Man City hit the bar with an open net to aim at in the 89th minute;
- the so called '*****' referee sent a City player off for **** all; and
- the so called '*****' referee gave you a penalty for absolutely **** all.

**** club with ideas above their station, **** fans, **** ground, and what a set of mongoids wandering round your horrible town centre, never seen as many numpty's in one place at the same time, makes Milton Keynes look like a good place to live ... so get ****** and get ready for a pasting on Saturday you tosspot

Must agree,Barnsley as a place to shop is o.k.if you require a pair of spectacles,anything else required and you have to go to Sheffield or Doncaster to get it,I live in Barnsley but Doncaster town centre is far superior to Barnsley hence I travell there to shop.

I love Donny and like it better than Barnsley obviously. The new airport is great(apart from the noise of the planes), the new interchange in the centre will be superb and the investment from the council is pretty good to be fair. Can we have the metro dome though it's miles better than the dome.

We haven't applied.

And the reason for not applying is because we don't have a cathedral. And unless you've got one, you cannot become a city....unless the rules/laws have been changed. Then again, I have been asleep for nearly 50 years!

And OOB.

Now I really must pull you up on this one.

We have already secured several hundred millions of regeneration funding, predominantly through the help of Yorkshire Forward, as well as european grants.

OOB.

What are you talking about?

There is no way you can blame BMBC for the closure of the Odeon. And it's not BMBC's fault that the Australian company that was supposed to build the multiplex ended up pulling the plug....The actually withdrew from most of their UK interests due to financial difficulties. BMBC are easier to blame though eh?

OOB.
