Seats are for sitting on, not destroying. Terraces, which we don't have now, we're for standing. Stadia now are all seated, accept it.

I remember taking my Mum to watch away games.

Fans standing up absolutely wrecked the game for her. She couldn't get up quick enough.

She missed alot of match action, and goals. She wasn't disabled, (except by her fellow fans). She was in her 60s/ 70s

And when we asked people not to stand all game in front of her (at away games), we were given dogs abuse.

Apparently that makes us boring. Yet we couldn't have alternative seats.

If wanting to actually watch the game that you've paid to watch as opposed to standing there looking like a f*cker ruining the game for everyone else makes you boring.. then I'm boring.

This. With bells on. 5% of our fans are absolute cocks who embarass our club and fans. Some people enjoy football for the game. Others enjoy it for yelling abuse, swearing at other fans, and basically proving that survival of the fittest hasn't quite weeded out all the moronic neandathals just yet. Few more years hopefully it will.

There were still seats when I first got taken by my dad as a nipper we went in the West Upper. Of course in those days the only people in the seated areas actually wanted to sit. When I was a bit bigger we went and stood in the old Brewery stand. I used to be right at the front. But then moved back as I grew taller. So to answer Gordon Owen. They either sat in the stand or stood near the front

I was in the right hand side of the away end near where the new stand is being built and the atmosphere in that section was brilliant. Probably the best its been all season. Stood up all match like you should be able to do at football.

Good question. Improved attendances and atmosphere. Probably us in the long run.

Never in your lifetime or the next. Safe standing at the very most. Open terracing - never.

I'm not sure it would increase the attendance would it? At Oakwell for examole there would be a huge cost involved in converting the west stand to terracing (the only stand that could possibly be converted) so the price of tickets in this area would have to be higher than the rest of the ground. Would that many people be willing to pay extra to stand up?

That's obviously for proper terracing. For the safe standing options that I've seen proposed it looks even more expensive as the seating/standing area plus associated barriers and gizmos required look ridiculously expensive when compared to a standard seat so again they would have to be more expensive tickets.

For me I don't think anyone has yet come up with an economically viable and safe system unfortunately. I actually don't think that standing had anything to do with Hillsborough either really so I don't think it is unsafe in that way

Safe standing would be fine and replace the unsafe up and down that we had yesterday and people getting upset/annoyed. There's no argument I've ever seen that convinces me that sitting is better than standing. The whole concept was about using a tragedy to demonise a particular section of working class society that the Tories weren't keen on.

I agree with most of that while there is not a safe standing option people will continue to stand in areas which are not fit for purpose. I have stood in safe seating areas in Germany and they are definitely an improvement.

Was it the rail seat system you stood in?

Yes. Seemed to work fine and it was a pretty big crowd.

Am I right in thinking though that it would significantly reduce the capacity as they take up two row per seat/slot as opposed to one and are quite a lot wider than standard seats too?

I don't understand why they can't simply have a standard seat like we have now but with a rail that pulls up from the ground at the back of each row. Gives exactly the same effect as safe standing but with several benefits. No effect on capacity, no bar in the way of your view when used for seating, no expensive and complicated changes to gradients or anything like that, no messing around having to lock thousands of seats up or down.

Sit at front and sit at back sorted
I think it is time to have standing sections and sitting sections. It is ok for younger fans standing , but the older fans and kids do prefer to sit. I have had to stand at various away matches because I had to. The other situation is up and up and down ffs I am knackered by the end of the match. Then there are the stand ups when we are bearing in on goal, then half the fans on the outer cannot see.
    Boring gits we are

This is the most annoying thread I've ever read, it is the LAW that all grounds are all seater so when you go to the match sit down do not stand up. If that is too difficult for anyone to understand you should not be allowed to attend football as you will have no chance with the off side law. To the arrogant tossers who feel they can stand up when they want and ruin everyone else's view then you need to get a grip, cancel your application on to the Jeremy kyle show and learn some manners and decency.
