Depends how old his mates are, they could be 12/13 years old if they all knock about/ live on same street, his mum might have thought he'd be safe, we don't know the full facts of the matter at the moment, the alarm was raised at 20-00, his mum and dad might have been looking for him a hour or two by then, anything could have happened, start asking questions of the mother and father once you know the facts

I know one thing, neither my 8 year old, nor indeed my 11 year old, would never be ever be out with anyone other than a responsible adult that I knew and trusted.

I used to make my own way back from school (ok on a school bus) from the age of 7 (Athersley South to Staincross). Not saying it's right or wrong, just don't think we need to start pointing a finger at the poor parents.

Re: Found on a building site on Bank End Road next to the church.

It's just hard for me to imagine as I always had to let my mam know if I was going off the street (even just to the shop one street away) and then I had to call back into the house to let her know I was back as soon as I got back onto our street. My mates thought she was a bit over protective but I didn't mind. I remember having to be 11 to go to the local park with my mates (we had to cross a main road) and 13 before I could go to town.

I was out playing with my mates miles from home when I was about 5, used to get bus to town on my own when I was 8 - the world is probably safer now than it was then.

Re: Found on a building site on Bank End Road next to the church.

Sorry Jedstar I must disagree here. I personally think that things were safer years ago than they are today.

Like yourself I used to go wandering for miles to parks on the other side of town and into the town centre on my own. Possibly all without my parents permission but thinking back I never felt in any danger. Maybe I was, who knows? That would have been in the early to mid 60's.

I'm not so sure I'd be too happy for my grandchildren to be doing similar these days. Apart from the obvious danger of the predator paedo going around the roads today are much more busy than they were years ago.

If you are referring to me in any way

I stick 100% behind anything I have posted on the subject, speaking as a parent, siting beside my precious 8 year old daughter.

My heart aches for the loss of that little boy. I cannot imagine what his family are going through at the moment and for the rest of their lives.

Very sad news, but let's wait and see how the little fella died before we judge. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Re: Found on a building site on Bank End Road next to the church.

Same here not 2 miles because the l fields I used to play on were much closer but still I could have easily wandered off to somewhere dangerous. In fact I am sure I did things which with bad luck could have killed me when I was a kid - fortunately never did worse than cuts bruises and a few stictches . Same with all my mates.

No idea of the real circumstances here but I wouldnt be too quick to accuse the parents.
    Terrible tragic accident most likely

    Its just awful news
