    Just seen a bloke on ITV saying 'I've voted Labour all my life but I'd rather slit me throat than vote for Corbyn... it's not the party I joined in the 1970s'.

    It's got to be the closest Labour to the ones of the 1970s, surely?
    I despair of some folk.

    It wasn't comparable in the slightest. The 1960s closures were for genuine uneconomic/safety/exhaustion reasons. Some of the pits were also very small concerns. They were all agreed with the NUM and jobs were found at other pits for those who wanted them. It was also a time when there were plenty of alternative jobs, so many chose to leave the industry.

    A lot of women in Germany said the same about Hitler. Strange isn’t it? Something about confidence and charisma? Similar thing happening with Johnson. You don’t have to be right, or good to get a following.
