I'm not convinced we have got the funds to bring in loads of experienced players and in our current plight they probably wouldn't come anyway. The recruitment policy has been naive in the extreme, both in terms of a very inexperienced manager and young players. So we don't have much option. A more experienced manager might get more out of this squad though, whilst possibly being able to bring in one or two players to help them out in January. The Oakwell faithful have shown an enormous amount of patience over the last few years and deserve a lot more. Surely we have the resources to be competitive in League One?
It's all well & good people saying they don't like sacking managers. None of us do. It's a pointless statement. If a manager is sacked it's because results are poor or there's issues in the boardroom. No one wants either issue at the club. Secondly, if your defence for keeping the manager is 'we sack too many' then he has to be sacked. If you can't come up with a better reason than that it's time to give up defending someone. If I've had 6 girlfriends inside a year & the latest one treats me like **** do I stay with her just because she might start been nice one day in the future? No, you get rid. If there were genuine positive signs that he could turn things around then I'd be willing to give him time but look at the way he's constantly changed keeper, constantly changed between a back 4 & 5 & changed the personnel in it. Look at how much worse Hourihane, Scowen & Pearson are to last season. Look at Winnall, Watkins, Jackson, Smith, Wilkinson & how much they've all struggled to score. Look at how many loan players we've had & how only one academy lad gets near the first team on a regular basis. Look at the football we've played, the slow tempo, the lack of movement, the lack of bravery & mainly the lack of entertainment. He should go, there's no doubt about it
My thoughts too Andy. In fact I'm starting to think some are just posting to wind up and get a reaction.
Not sure what you define as failure, because you're prepared to accept it (as I define it) rather than sacking a manager to supposedly avoid it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Hold on mate, thats what they said when we got relegated from the Championship! FFS accepting getting relegated just because you dont want to keep sacking managers is bloody mental !!
Been watching them since 69 in all 4 divisions that's about 45 seasons, and in all that time there have probably only been about 7-8 teams that were actually worth paying to watch. I support them because its in my blood. Honestly doesn't bother me which division they are in. If I had to make a choice of which teams were the best (most enjoyable to watch) I think it would be those from the Clarke/Hunter era. Which just happened to be the old 3rd and 4th divisions. Didn't enjoy the season in the Premiership at all really. Its possible that had a lot to do with my age at the time, but the rise from the fourth to the 2nd division was just glorious. Great attacking football, great atmosphere, positivity all round. What depresses me most about the situation today, is not the team... its all the negativity around...mainly posted on here,,, life's too short. Each to there own ... its only a game after all is said and done
Airtyke, Cambridge Red and Red Rain are all entitled to their opinion, and I'm sure there are others who agree with them. Their posts are articulate and they have BFC running through them, I'm sure. However, I'd argue that Airtyke's assertion that if we sack the manager we only have 2 options (his a) journeyman manager or b) young inexperienced manager) is rather simplistic and naïve. There is surely a third option of an experienced but not a journeyman manager. Just look at the IMMEDIATE IMPACT Graham Westley has had at Peterborough in a few months. Or look at his predecessor, Darren Ferguson, and what he has achieved. I'm struggling to accept ANOTHER relegation for us to regroup, though! And to say "Sacking the manager is a short sighted response that is 90% certain to fail." is a very subjective statement that cannot be supported by facts. Yes, confidence does play a big part in football, but I see little evidence that this can be turned around by Johnson. Again, look at Westley at Peterborough. I hear him speaking on local radio every day, and he talks his players up all the time. What I find really strange, and another poster has mentioned this recently, is that we could play so well against Everton, yet for league games last season and this season we have been very poor. Are the players playing for Johnson? I am seriously beginning to wonder about this.
