A championship squad

I can’t see any Champ club where Davies would get the first starting slot. With us, he would.

He’s in his prime as a keeper and he has to do the best he can to push his Wales place further.

Hope he stays, but he goes with my best wishes if not, as I get the situation he’s in.

Walton would have to be the no1 then - he has to step up as part of our business plan. If he’s not deemed ready, I expect him to go on loan for a full season - he needs games or will fester. Like Davies did at Wednesday.

 

I've got a feeling the spreadsheet doesn't do goalkeepers. It would certainly explain why one hasn't been incoming for such a long time.

 

We've got to be ruthless. A lot of these players weren't good enough at that level last season. Have they improved or just found their level?

 

Davies has been absolutely brilliant this year but he didn't have a great season last time we were in the Champ. Much tougher level in terms of strikers especially. I think it's fair enough if he wants to cash in on this season and have a fresh challenge, I'd rather have someone who had a bit of fire in his belly to be here.

 

Bahre played most of his games in a front 2 just off Woodrow, so i put him in with the forwards. He doesnt play centre mid with Mowatt or Mcgeehan and has only dropped in at times as a makeshift winger

Styles has massive potential but to go in to the champonship next season with him starting thats very doubtful at this stage in his development when he hasnt started a league 1 game.

 

I posted something very similar the other day. Walton seemed to play a lot further forward when he was covering during the international break.

 

I think you'll see a few continental players at Oakwell next season.

 

I think Davies and Jackson will go so we’ll need a new keeper and centre back. Possible new left back. Happy at right back if cavare ends up staying. Happy with centre mid - mcgeehan, Dougal and Mowatt are fine plus styles. Maybe Matty Wolfe can also step up as an option. Certainly need at least one winger and a striker.

I was going to post the same thing, I'd expect a lot more foreigners in the squad next year as you can get miles better value for money like Norwich have done.

 

that is a valid point, i'm not saying that I agree with it but it does bare looking into. the squad have got 12 months playing experience over last year which may come into the mix

 

Not sure I think Walton is highly rated at the club but don't think he is ready for the championship. Been linked with the young Scottish keeper liam kelly but Celtic also interested in sure we will have been looking in case Davies decides to go.

 

12 months experience and a better manager. I don't think anybody would argue that if we'd had Stendel instead of Morais they would have stayed up. We nearly managed it in any case, I think we would have taken at least one of the many opportunities we had to save ourselves.

 

Why can we not sign another goalkeeper if Davies leaves?
