You and Dyson have hit the nail on the head between you both. The one for Andy's dad Arthur was a great touch. He was a top bloke who had watched us live in God knows how many matches for well over half a century and spent a crazy amount of time/money for his passion of our football club.

As a one off for someone who had gave so many years to our club it was a wonderful gesture and the Cardiff fans joining in showed that in football we can all be united sometimes no matter who we support. My issue is where does it stop? Whenever one of our fans dies now what's to stop them asking the club for the same so we have a minutes applause at every home game? When our club say no the family can argue their deceased reletive doesn't mean as much as Ashley who got his round of applause.

I know a Barnsley fan who passed away last year who could remember watching Sir Stanley Matthews playing against us in his youth but his family didn't ask for anything from our club. What about the old man programme seller who died last year? In his 70s, on his feet with a smile on his face selling programmes whatever the weather and he got a nice few lines in a matchday programme. If we have a minutes applause everytime someone asks for one it waters down it meaning something. Having a two minutes applause at the end of the season would be better for everyone.

 

Again a fair point, but as it says further up the thread, it would be respectful to save this discussion for another time. Or begin a new general thread on the subject. If a relative is looking in, it will not be very pleasant to read criticism of a gesture they have requested.

You don't have to participate and I am sure no harm was intended.

Not personally, he lived nearby in Hoyland and went to Kirk Balk as I did. You might say things like this concern me more than most.

 

What happens if we or they score on 14 mins? Should surely be done before the match or at half time!

 

Is it like anyone else though?

From what I have read the kid was at a very low point in his life and for any 14 year old with their whole life ahead of them to take the decision to end their life in that matter is a very sad story indeed.

If the press coverage I hope this story gets, just saves one other 14 year old or anyone else in that situation from doing the same and talking to someone then it will have been worth it.
