Re:That is absolute rubbish "We elect MPs to make our laws as specialists!!???" Are you 'avin a larf?? You need NO quaifications to run as an MP or Councillor. Cabinet Ministers are often moved between departments during the course of a Parliament. Gideon has no specialist qualifications to be Chancellor and the current and previous Health and Education secretaries have no specific skills or qualifications for the departments they run. People usually vote a political party in not individuals.
Maybe they were not in a position to influence government because they ended up with 1 MP, but that is in part due to our voting system of first paat the post. In vote count terms, they polled more votes than the SNP, but spread over more constituencies, and the SNP ended up with 50 seats. The issue for the Tories was not that UKIP would be in a position to influence government, it was that they would lose enough votes from natural tories to lose the election for the tories. In the end, it affected Labour as much if not more than the tories, and could be what cost them the election. That's what you get when you don't listen to the electorate.
I'm pretty sure we're in violent agreement about the Tories losing votes and trying to put a stop to that. It looks to me like UKIP are a one/two issue party and I doubt whether U.K. is yet receptive to voting sufficiently for one/two issue parties for them to form a government.......Course that's just my opinion - maybe I'm wrong !
Re: That is absolute rubbish Do you have any idea what MPs do? Do you know how much time they spend reading, in committees, researching the background to various issues. I have a number of specialist books "retired" from the House of Commons library. They have been stamped out of the library many many times. You might vote for a party, but you generally elect a hard working dedicated person (which ever party you vote for) Under value your MP and sadly we know what the outcome can be.
Re: That is absolute rubbish Researchers handle most of that ....and to be fair it's rarely necessary for an individual MP unless you're intending to stand against your party line.
Do many people really trust any politicians? Jo Cox was murdered, it was absolutely awful and she certainly didn't deserve that and neither did her poor kids or husband or cousin, aunt, uncle, or anyone else connected with her. However does the poor lady being murdered mean that she never told a lie, exaggerated or omitted the truth or twisted the facts to further her career or to push forward her desires or opinions? No of course it doesn't. It doesn't mean that she did any of those things but not does it mean that she didn't and the question was would you have trusted her? The answer was that no, as a politician I wouldn't. I don't think there is anything wrong with that and it certainly isn't slagging her off or anything, it's just commenting on not trusting any politician
I don't know for certain whether she has or not , never heard any complaints or legal proceedings against her ,so would say no tbh. She may have not acted on individuals issues raised if she didn't believe in them but they're usually honest and tell them so. To answer your question I don't know ,but then neither do you .
