I've been privileged to have witnessed all three eras and all have their merits it's difficult because football is so different now but there are players from each squad which would improve the others. But they say your first love is the best so it's the late 70s early 80s squad for me.
Alan Clarke put us on the map. Absolutely brilliant times to be a Red. Danny Wilson led us to the promised land. Never to be forgotten and could never be beaten. Impossible choice between 81/2 and 96/7 it's the ultimate paradox. If I thought about it too long, it would open a split in the fabric of the space-time continuum.
81/82 was before my time, but between this season and 96/97 it's easily Danny's team. That's not a slight on Val or the lads at all but that season was incredible. We were the first unfashionable team to crash the megabucks Premier League party and we did it playing fantastic, expansive attacking football.
