I don't know any who work in either of them, but some places that aren't a right lot better.

If you mean Ventura, then it's a pretty good company, especially if you're in the HR department.

Journo - when I'm shortlisting it's having the qualification that counts not necessarily the grade attained, though it might help if the shortlisting is close.

But all this is a smokescreen you should just get the dissertation done!

I did the dissertation last year!

It's an exam retake that I'm struggling to understand.

    Thanks though.

Empathy works depending on the "sales enviroment".
In our industry we find a thirty minute sales call where you talk for twenty minutes about the customer, their kids, hobbies, football etc, then 10 minutes business gets far more results than structured, pyramid, SWOT sales etc.
This method with a little direction works for us .

Yeah true, it depends on what you're selling, how big each sale is and who you're selling to. I can understand that one.

and I've just read back about the credits stuff. I wouldn't expect to be looking at anything other than have you got the qualification. To be fair other than selecting on that basis and checking that you have got the qual you say you have not a lot else matters.

But on a personal level you should go for the best you can get and even if it takes a bit more work - go for it!

    Have I got this right?

From journalism to the HR department within a feckin' call centre! Or have I got the wrong Ventura?

    The mind boggles.

    OOB.

Would hope that any employer would be looking at far more than qualifications and interview technique Journo. OK, to get to interview stage you will have to tick all the boxes and no doubt qualifications/skill levels will be listed, but there is a lot more to a person and a job, than a degree.

One of the most overlooked, but important, aspects is 'attitude'. Yes, if your interview technique is good, then you may be able to show how your attitude to studying/work/colleagues/career/etc. will stand you head and shoulders above the other candidates. imho a lot of candidates fail (in a relative sense) through relying too much on their qualification and/or experience. Show traits such as enthusiasm, empathy (especially in sales related posts :) ), good communication - smile, ask relevant questions, etc., etc.

Don't get too hung up on the fact that it aint the best degree in the world. Do though, get hung on the fact that it aint the best, if your attitude to studying was(is) not quite right.

Best course of action, do as others suggest and finish the work - sorted.

    But why Hr?

    Surely you're a journo!!
You can write - why not go for it?
It's worth persevering with as it's a great life

    RE: But why Hr?

It's not a great life for a number of years, and even then it might not be.

Crap money, little security and a hell of a lot of uncertainty.

I know I can write, but you also need a lot of luck.

Plus I'd have to do another year's course to learn the law and short hand etc which would cost me £3500 in fees alone.

    Who is this anyway? :)

    potential and experience

when recruiting we also look at how likely they are to stay in the job for a few years - pointless spending money recruiting and training if ya they leave in a year

qualifications re secondary to experience when it comes to non-technical degrees.

a simple pass for a degree is worthless, if its not a 2/2 or above it shows you're a waster

Simple answer, the degree thing would be the last thing that might sway me between two or more good candidates; before that would come personality, attitude, experience, etc.

I'd go for personality before degree class

    But either way you're fecked.

Is the degree vocational or more work specific ?

eg If I'm employing an Optometrist and they've struggled to get a degree in Optometry then they aren't getting an interview.

If they struggle to give you an erection they won't get the job
