RE: You are ALL missing something - the GREYHOUND STADIUM

Ah, you beat me too it.</p>

I thought the Dog track didn't go ahead but thanks for putting me right. I can't remember any buildings but then again I'm not local to the Queens Road area. It was pretty obvious that some thing had been there.

    Behind the Spion Kop.....

Wasn't there a bowling green as well? And the bar on the corner of the North Terrace as well the snack bar on the Paddock side, where the bold bloke used to sit with his dog?

Yep, there were two bowling greens.

With free movement from end to end in those days, when Barnsley were kicking towards the Kop that end had a fair number in it and, during half time, hundreds would gather at the top of what was just a muck stack extending beyond the terracing (what would H&S think of that these days!). You risked falling down the other side just to watch an amateur football match on the Queens Ground or some crown green bowling.
If the match on the Oakwell pitch was crap some would carry on watching the Co-op Sports match instead :)

    That hilltop you mention

An old bloke used to stand up there on match days, with a dog I believe, and watch the games.

Didn't Sheff Utd once play with 3 sides to their ground in the 70s and even then couldn't fill the damn place?
