First time I've heard that one... I remember that Clarke, and the club had even fallen out with the Barnsley Chron. It wasn't a very good time to be following the reds (again)
Name the player That came on as sub in that game and played for about 7 minutes before being sent off.
We used to call our forward line "bartheeads" that season because they ran abart like chickens bart eeads. Dont think chandler ever scored again though I could be wrong. Cheeky roger sorted it art when he cam back though.
In my opinion John MacDonald played a huge part in our success in the second half of the season, along with Stuart Gray & Paul Futcher.
No doubt abart that I think we were fairly safe though, safe enough not to compete against Hudds, keeping them up and effectively relegating sunderland by beating them on the last day at roker park.
RE: Blimey, that's a good question. Sean Dunphy. Centre half that came throug the youth system. He'd made his debut earlier that season at home to Sheff Utd and played very well. I'm not sure he ever played for us again after the WBA debacle.
7-0 away at reading That's when Clarke played his final game. He also sent the whole team down Barnsley main to show them how it was to have a real job. I loved Clarkey, he was the start of our revival. Then came Norman
Forgotten all about him The following week we played at home to Newcastle United, who were going for promotion. We drew 1-1 with Mick Quinn scoring a last minute equaliser, after David Currie had volleyed us in front.
In the run up to that WBA game Winstanley was quoted as saying "We'll continue to play the Allan Clarke way". That was a terrible game made even worse by the bus breaking down on the way home.
RE: yep the combination of Rodge the Dodge and Michael Clarke I recall Rodger after being recalled, and scoring a goal, being asked post match by Radio Sheff. why he hadn't scored many that season. his reponse was that you didn't score many goals pushing a trolley round Asda.
A thing I always find with the BBS Is that a few frequent posters can give you the impression subjects being posted about are much higher profile or more of a deal than they are
This BBS is by no means a representative sample of the opinions of the Barnsely fan base, it's a subset ... who knows how much of a cross section it is, but whenever I talk to people who don't post on the BBS I get a completely different (and often far more individual) perspective on things
I think everyone is a bit concerned, I think a lot of people didn't expect many points from the games we've played. Whether there is a Barnsley wide clamour for Davey's head on a pole outside Oakwell ... is more debateable. Some people never liked the appointment, some people generally don't agree with the sacking of managers, others think pre-season friendlies resultsshould be enough to get rid

Had a conversation satdi...
New LT member joining us for first time on the train.
"Do you post on the BBS" asks I....
"Do I ****, its all far too negative on there" came the reply.
He's got a very good point. Not that I'vebeenMr positive myself oflateit should be said. But I think the old adage goes on here that far more people will log on to have a moan than to say summat positive. Follows that in our current predicament Davey's bound to be the villain on here unless summat turns round sharpish. And it won't be Darren Moore
(Sorry)

Allan Clarke..... I seem to recall that he refused to write any programme notes for one of the games during the 88/89 season - i think that was the year when Cuz and a few others got thrown out when they began waving ten pound notes, or whatever, towards Geoff Buckle after the sale of John Beresford to Portsmouth. This was against Sunderland....... I thought we played some great footie that season. The following season we started really badly and Eric Winstanley took over from Clarke roundabout the 7-0 drubbing at WBA. After that came Mel Machin.
Did we sell Bez to pay for the floodlights after one of the lamps in the Ponty crashed to the ground?
