There are several ancient civilisations believed to have used purpose made 'sunglasses' fashioned from polished quartz and crystal to protect their eyes from the sun. Roman Gladiators were believed to have used them when in the arena. A detail lost on Russell Crowe and the art directors of erm...Gladiator. The BM has a cool pair. The ancient Chinese invented those 'slitty' ones that were all the rage in the 80s, popularised by the likes of Andrew Ridgeley.
