They're on a right fiddle. What the bin men in Leeds don't mention.

They work in crews, once their round is over, they can go home , often to othe jobs. But they also take in turns to do a slow round. If a round is lagging behind the crews that finished early are called in to help the slow crew to finish their round. Only they get paid double time for this.

The council is trying to stamp this out, which is one of reasons the bin men in Leeds ain't happy.

    Better than a £24,000 paycut

    If you're made redundant though...

Don't know where he's got £24,000 from. I've seen that they are typically going to lose £4,500 of a £18,000 salary.

what ive just said, nobody knows the whole truth!
RM have already implemented the extra work loads when they havn't even got the equipment,
ive been in the job 5 years and when i first started they said they were getting these machines,
and do tell me how these machines are supposed to throw them into our frames and bag it up?
what would you do if your gaffa told you they're getting a robot in to help you do your job in a few years but we want the output it will increase now, oh, and we want you to go out of your way and expense to do it?

I got it by using maths

A £6000 paycut was mentioned as was 25% which would mean the initial wage was £24,000.

They are on £18000 at the top, proposal was to drop £6000 ,that's why they are on strike, but you'd do it for £12000 wouldn't you

the thing is though korky it isn't the general public that is to blame for YOUR chosen union making you all look like workshy ungrateful Barstewards(which you obviously aren't). If you don't like the publics response to your unions poor handling of the situation then force them to improve or change unions. What you can't do is lay the blame for your industries mistakes at the foot of the public, its a no win situation.

    Not a 25% reduction then

    I didn't supply the figures.

If I hadn't bothered at school and therefore had no qualifications, OR if there was nothing else round due to the recession then YES I would.

    Beats being on the dole.

they manage it on our street and they're worse than useless. one man wheels two bins less than ten foot to the middle of the road, the lorry tips it and by the time its back on the floor the second guy is stood waiting with his bins, while this is happening the third guy is preparing his and so on.

16 houses in about 3 or 4 minutes.

I'm impressed you've timed them, there's no way they could do that where I live and I'm sure theres only two crew per wagon here

It's not really a matter of having to time them, they need watching most of the time because they're so useless (putting bins inches from cars in high winds, throwing items across the street etc) so you get a feel for how long it takes them. The houses are all detatched as well so i'd say that would make it take a little bit longer than an inner city route and yes there's definetly 4 men that do ours. One driving, two hanging off the side and one walking in front 'preparing' or something.

Probably have to chuck the bins about to get 230 in an hour , you'll be putting them on the wagon yourself before long

They don't do it to save time, it's simply to save effort. They'll throw something across the street and then stand waiting for the lorry. In the time they've stood waiting they could easily have placed it at the side of the road instead of throwing it

    For all you maggie lovers.......

    Just consider this ........

People go on strike for a reason.....

No it's not to fore go wages in the run up to Christmas & deprive their loved ones of nice xmas pressies

No it's not to disrupt ordinary peoples lives.....

No it's not cos they are leftist/marxist/commie barstewards

It's cos they have a genuine grievance....

Probably with some ill informed knobhead management team who think they know what's best and who want to further their own careers at the expense of many other people....

    RANT over

btw i was never a scargillite but i was on strike for 12 months in 84/5
