Number of people worldwide who will die as a result of malnutrition this year: 20 million.
Number of people who could be adequately fed using land freed if Americans reduced
their intake of meat by 10%: 100 million.

RE: Can a pedant see the wood for the trees?

The recorder would have to be hidden in some sort of bird box so that the trees didn't know we were listening or they might be noisy on purpose.

Why not evolve some more then..

we don't need to eatmeat to subsidise our diet anymore though, we have fridges and freezers to store our food in.

Aww, he only thinks MOST of them - that's sweet, mate - thanks...

    :D

I don't buy the extinction argument - reduction in population, maybe, but the population only reached the level it did because we're breeding to slaughter. Most animals have looked after themselves for years upon years without our, ahem, "assistance"...

It wouldn't be the first time I've been moralised to by an animal killer, mind you!

    :)

On a serious note, it isn't something I particularly think about much, it definitely isn't summat I preach about (I'll have the arguments, but what other folk do isn't any business of mine). There's bigger issues in the world at the moment than meat eating...

    Must answer this one...

There is more than enough food in the world to feed that malnourished 20m, the problem lies with the structures that would lead to them receiving it.

That's not to say it wouldn't be welcome for Americans to reduce their intake of 'meat' by 10%. I use the term 'meat' very loosely when applied to American produce.

I will not see malnutrition used as an argument for vegetarianism though!

Aye maybe so, but there are plenty of other reasons as I'm sure you know.

Number of acres of U.S. forest cleared for cropland to produce meat-centered diet: 260 million. Area of tropical rainforest consumed in every quarter-pound of rainforest beef: 55 sq. feet. Current rate of species extinction due to destruction of tropical rainforests for meat grazing and other uses: 1,000 per year.

hows things anyway buddy, keeping well I hope.

Have you re-newed ya ST. bit skint myself so prob POTD and get a 1/2 ST at xmas..

due to the kindness of my old man in providing a wholly customised installments programme, yes I have, and I can't wait for the new season. I've moved down to tarn now and living on my lonesome, so should really arrange for some beers some time!

Are you well? What happened to the move? Postponed or cancelled?

    RE: Confounding

Are you saying more veggies smoke than meat eaters?

I know many vegetarians, and NONE of them smoke.

    I'd have thought 'sausage eaters'...

Would be very unlikely to be vegetarian!

    Have that :D

Lol, my parents turned veggie then and I've had absolutely no desire whatsoever since then to eat meat.
