Re: Zyklon B was the gas used to kill prisoners

I visited Auschwitz l and Auschwitz - Berkinau during a motorbike tour in Poland and CZ recently. It's somewhere I've always wanted to go, not because I'm Jewish but just out of curiosity and I feel people should visit these places for a perspective.
I saw the gas chambers and the wooden huts where they kept people worse than livestock. I saw the piles of belongings, the glasses, human hair and kiddies shoes the empty tins of Zyklon B and got a real sense of the sheer scale of the horrors that went on there. I found it a moving and memorable experience. The worst thing for me was the mugshot style pictures they took of prisoners early on, before they gave that up for tattoos coz it was too expensive. The absolute fear and horror you can see in peoples eyes is truly shocking, some just children. I never want to go back.

Most of mainland Europe is the same (in making it illegal).

My daughter and a fellow pupil went from Barnsley college about six years since. She was studying history at the time as one of her subjects. She did the presentations that you mention and whilst she was fully aware of what had happened in the concentration camps, nothing could have prepared her for the actual reality.

Yep, I went in that tower as well.

The thing for me was the human hair and items made from it. The only place they didn't allow photographs to be taken. And the one place where it really got too much for me and I had to back away and look away from the exhibit, I literally felt sick.

Having said that, Israel haven't exactly covered themselves in glory in the past 60 odd years...

Half of the problems in the world now date back to the formation of Israel and other events just after the last war. Half of those issues date back to the way we sorted things out in Germany at the end of WWI.

Never has the adage two wrongs don't make aright been more apt where their actions have been concerned.

Sickening to read what some humans can do to each other and not that long ago.
