Let’s be right as well, when the right wing times is ripping the government and it’s leader to shreds there’s got to be a boat load of truth in it.

This isn't personal Marlon but what is sickening is the constant posting of politically motivated attacks based purely on what suits the political narrative of the poster.

Its happening on here daily and on other forums too. So to point out that certain posters should saying 'let's stop the blame game' because its sickening on a forum that is playing the blame game constantly is sickening in itself.

You won't agree because it doesn't suit your political agenda but its true and it has been pointed out by other members of this forum who are definitely not 'Tory sympathisers' as you would describe them.

shouldn't it make you think that a Tory rag has written this... that’s the amazing thing here, or you could just shrug your shoulders, look for an angle and not comment on the article.

We're dealing with a pandemic. People are allowed to question the actions of the government and in fact it's very important that we do. Equating that to people saying "let's not play the blame game" is a false equivalency - regardless of what you think of the arguments being made, at least they're actual arguments rather than just trying to mute the conversation.

I'm not commenting because I want to hear the counter argument first. They are quite serious allegations so a knee jerk reaction isn't appropriate in my opinion. Yes I agree that it doesn't look good because of the very source that has printed it but that is my point...

Tory press print something that supports the government - outrage on the BBS and dismissed as Tory lies and propaganda.

Tory press print something that doesn't support the government - outrage on the BBS (for different reasons) and every word is true.

You’ve a point about the tribal discourse being unhelpful at best.

It doesn’t alter the fact that this government dithered for weeks with a leader insisting on keeping his holidays and working a 5 day week when we were heading into an international crisis.

I agree. If it is proven that the government were asleep on duty then they should be held to account.

I think you've misunderstood me. Critical assessment is fine and should be encouraged but some of the tribalism on here on other social media platforms is not helpful at all. In fact its exactly the opposite.

Well yeah, but that's just logic isn't it? If a source with a known bias prints something in line with that then you're going to take it with a pinch of salt. If it prints something which goes against that bias then of course you're going to consider it to be more credible as it's clearly not biased.

Not really, not in my opinion. If you believe stories to be lies just because you don't agree with them but applaud them, when they come from the same source, as the truth then its just being selective. This article could well be accurate but equally some of the articles printed that you don't agree with could also be accurate.

In future when The Times prints an article supporting the government will you dismiss it or pause for thought and say, 'well it could be true'?

As I've said on here before sometimes the press get it right, sometimes they don't and this applies to the press on both sides of the political divide.

Well if Labour would have won the election, then nothing would have changed because the damage was already done with a decade and half of austerity, underfunding the NHS and Key services, and then the 2016 pandemic trial and the aftermath of ignoring it findings.

You know all the stuff that has happened because of this government and it’s predecessors.

Labour might have acted quicker but to answer that would be sheer pie in the sky, because we will never know.

But in your example we're not dealing with press on both sides of the political divide, we're considering stories from one source firmly on one side of the political divide. If a source has a known bias then any stories which go against that bias are more likely to be accurate, as why would that story be false/embellished?

The Tories feared the rise of Labour under Corbyn and ousted May, knowing that loveable rogue Johnson and his Brexit bluster would see off Jeremy, aided by the Tory media machine.

    Corbyn has gone.

The Tories no longer need Johnson. The Tory media turns on him as it did May.

And I repeat - Starmer has done a Daily Mail column. Today.

It’s a machine and we are all being played.

Could it have been worse? No one can tell - we can only judge on what is happening now. When the Tory press is piling on you know something isn't right

I’m pretty sure recorded deaths would have been far lower under a labour government.

Diane was going to add up the numbers...

Priti is adding them up now so we know they are accurate - so far there have been 14000500604 deaths
