Personally I don’t think there is a lot wrong with the principal of our recruitment process, the issue for me is how we use it.
Currently we are stop starting as the players coming in are not ready to step up and take time.
When someone like Mads leaves we was never gonna replace him like for like but the ones ready to step in should already have been here so the changes are smaller.
    Address this and it works

Give over please, Glavin left in 85/86 we spent the next 17 years as a championship club with 1 season in the PL, relegation to L1 for 4 years followed by promotion and 8 years back in the championship.
Having spent more seasons in the entire pyramid in the 2nd tier I'd say suggests otherwise, you've accepted abject failure as the normal as its easier.
How much money has been wasted on Watters, Cosgrove and missing players such as Mccarthy and Cundy.
It doesn't take mega bucks to get out of this league just the people above building things instead of swinging a wrecking ball every summer.

The board seems to have accepted lower league mediocrity

Absolutely this. Of course, we're not going to be able to go out and sign somebody as good as Andersen, but there absolutely needed to be a better plan to rebuild the defence. Could've been the difference between Duff staying or going. Instead, we chose to sign two new right wing backs, to go with the two we already had.

You know a transfer window has lacked some cohesion when you sign a striker, play him in the first team, and loan him out all in the same window. Like we did with Dallas.

I've literally said the opposite to what you've stated, so I've no idea where there's any acceptance of failure. A Championship club is what we should aim to be, albeit we were never a 'stable' one, even in the 80s and 90s. We stayed in the league, but we had an eye on relegation for more of them than we were looking the other way, even then. The difference now is that we've had one season where we've been around the Championship play-offs, rather than doing so more frequently in the 80s and 90s, as a consequence of the Premier League, parachute payments, etc.

Acceptance of being a League One club is exactly the point I'm arguing against.

We should be aiming to win the Champions League. Obvious to me. That's the highest pinnacle so aim for it. Dont accept L1. Dont accept Championship. Get in the Premier League and succeed. Defeatist talk to talk about accepting one's position in life. Be brave, be bold and go for it even if it takes a while. Don't roll over and expect a tummy tickle.

Mads did get pelters for a lot of his time here and that he wasn't good enough, same with Cole, opinions and performance levels can change.
That's why i don't write off the like of lopata, Degiviny Russell, Kane Benson.
Before his injury Benson had a spell last season where the crowd were singing super Joshy Benson he looked a world beater for a good spell.
Things in football can change so quickly.

How about declaring Barnsley a Sovereign Nation and aiming for the World Cup? ;)

Not good enough. Barnsley to rule the world, host the world cup every time, be a member of the UN and every Barnsley - born person gets free internet and a lifetime supply of beer.

We are where we are, for a bunch of reasons. Conway, et Al.

I'm stuggling to see where we are going TBH at the moment. We have not put a shift in for a while. There is some decent quality in the side.

All I see is a lack of confidence & very poor performances.

100% agree with what you put & your approach towards the players. Some of them will make it in time and some won’t.

We were always a stable championship club in the 80s and 90s bar the odd season in 20 years so I'm not sure where the notion of we were always clinging to our status comes from? We finished bottom 6 only 3 times, the absolute epitome of a stable 2nd tier club.

I’m not going to argue black is white but I am going to argue the league has changed since then financially and therefore so has our situation. If you’re not willing to accept that then fine. The Luton/Blackpools are the outliers. Unfortunately, we are where we are which is a top ten league one/ bottom 6 championship side. But I’m okay with that and the hope is we can box smart and exceed that. Currently we are not boxing smart.

How come Ismael came into a team that was bottom 6 with no wins in 8 games with the same set of players that stayed up with the last kick the season before and turned us into a top 6 side ?
If were bringing finances into it then Val spent 200k on Carlton Morris and the shrewd signing of Dike on loan.
There's absolutely no accountability throughout the football club, owners who spend a few days every month at the club and other board members who haven't been seen in god knows how long. I actually felt sorry for Khaled at times an almost impossible role with far too much to do hence why so much was overlooked at times.

We were only struggling because everyone knew Struber was leaving. It was an awkward situation where we were waiting for compensation to be agreed. They’d shown top half form under Struber the previous season.

The first paragraph is well wide of the mark mate.

I think we took over the ‘longest serving’ mantle from Shrewsbury Town??

Between Hunter and Wilson’s tenures we sat comfortably at that level, rarely threatening to leave at either end of the table.

One season late 80s, we were in a precarious position but Rodger Wyldes goals helped steer us up the table, and the most excited we got was thinking we’d made the playoffs.

No chance. Most of my life as a Barnsley fan we've been in the championship/division 1. I've seen us playing premier league football. Absolutely no way I accept league one is our standard now.
