When they took over, the new owners said that without going " crazy" they would be prepared to fund a tilt at reaching the Premiership. To me, that inferred that they were ambitious. Our recent relegation was patently not part of the master plan, but we can only hope they keep their word, invest in the necessary quality to get back into the Championship and see where they go from there. They will be hoping that Stendel is a success and that given time , he is able to build a successful team that plays attractive, attacking football in the traditional Barnsley way.
That doesn't make it a tin pot stadium. It makes it a small but excellent stadium and would take just 4 months to expand to16000, work that can be done during the season. If they do well this year they could expand as needed.
Think the 100 million Bournemouth receive from the premier league makes up for the shortfall & cash daft Russians bought their promotion , not a comparison with Rotherham at all but Brentford are & I doubt they will progress on their current gates & income which brings my point home
I did not say it was tin pot, actually I said the opposite, however , if you are right about expansion , why on earth did they not do it in the first place
I know you didn't, dreamboy did. They didn't do it in the first place as they were a lot of wear league club at the time. It would take 4 months to expand to16000 by extending behind each goal to the same height as the main stand and then to 20000 by extending the remaining stand in the same way. A lot of people have suggested we do the same with our West stand, build a small one because we don't need a bigger stand at the moment. Personally I think it limits the club and is short term thinking
Exactly , you do not want to reduce the capacity if it can be avoided , one day hopefully we might return to the promised land & you need every seat possible should that happen . I feel sure that we would have had far bigger crowds in the premier with a bigger capacity & that was at the expense of missing out on away fans which is my original point about the Millers , they simply do not have enough seats to capitalise on big away followings which is missed revenue
Our current ground lacks atmosphere. We need a long term plan re the West Stand, but first priority is to build a team to get us back in the Championship. Based on Rotherham's fan base I think they made a good decision regarding their ground.
I agree that the dogshyte football we served up last season would have had the same atmosphere in any ground. The fact that most of the West Stand is empty however meant things were pretty flat even during recent good times. A more compact ground would help & I see why teams like Rotherham have opted not to build larger stadiums.
I dont think the problem is the size of our stadium its that the west stand just doesn't hold any sound in. Replace it with an east stand replica and it would make a massive difference
Brentford and QPR are both compact but still like morgues. Fulham play fantastic football, but apart from the silly clappers rarely make a murmur. I've seen all but two away games over the last two seasons and I can't really remember many games when the home fans were really noisy.
East stand replica would just mean more empty seats, If/ when the West stand is replaced, I think a single tier stand would be quite adequate
Glad to hear it, thanks. It’s irrelevant because PC is dead as is his tenure. But wait, he’s still to blame. For summat....
