SUN LINK FLINDERS WITH PALACE

BARNSLEY goalkeeper Scott Flinders is being linked with a summer switch to Crystal Palace, according to The Sun today.

The England U20 international was the subject of an undisclosed bid from a Championship club last week.

    Today's Sun newspaper reports:

BARNSLEY keeper Scott Flinders has signed a £500,000 Palace deal.

Nothing definite reported from the club, as yet.

I had hoped that we could have kept Scott, but at least if he goes to Crystal Palace he will be under the watchful eye of Peter Taylor and so his career as a future England no 1 should be assured (so long as he doesn't pick up any bad injuries).

    Good Luck Scott. (Y)

Richie is denying that Palace have put a bid in for him - but tbh

RE: Shrewsbury appear to drive a harder bargain than us.

If we have really let Flinders go for as little as that I'd be amazed ...

    It would be sheer madness.

    So

If BFC announced they were buying a player with only 14 league appearences for £500k you'd think that to be reasonable?

    What a stupid remark.

It depends on the player. Scott has got into the England set up, is obviously highly regarded, and in the light of a keeper in a similar position going for more money, then I believe that £500k represents giving him away in that context.

    w@nk if true

It should be double that before we even start talking about extra clauses.

It's alright people thinking that 500k is a lot of money but compared to the years of specialised training that he has recieved from the likes of John Lukic it is practically nothing. Unlike a midfielder who can be trained by pretty much anyone, Scott is a goalkeeper who has had a dedicated coach for just a few players meaning that his coaching has cost a lot more than other players.

150k is what a tribunal judged two and a half years training at Scunny to be worth for paul hayes. The training and development that flinders has gained at bfc since he joined our academy must be worth three times that at least and that is before adding on how much he s actually worth now and the potential for how much he'll be worth in a year or two.

No less than £1m plus clauses.
