RE: Im still hopeful that it all falls through

    Can we do better?

Can we actually get those managers you want to come to Oakwell, can we afford their salary and their spending budget?

    Can we?

    You do not know!

    Agreed.

I find it staggering that the ones who are most positive about Robins are those who were most vociferous in wanting Davey out.

    It also says...

"We have identified candidates that we believe will fit the bill and we are progressing our talks with them."

"We spoke to him on Wednesday night and are continuing to have talks, but I would stress that we are still having communications with a number of other managers too."

"I can only say that we are stilling talking to Mark Robins, and are also still speaking to a few other managers we have on our list."

This might not be as much a done deal as we think. Or for the conspiracy theory lot, we are just covering our back in case he turns us down so we don't look stupid.

To be fair I think that's where we need to take negotiations next. A far more convivial atmosphere. Mr Robins could have 60 minutes to mull over his options.

    Ive a decent idea

at the time of appointing Davey, the options werent all that, primarily because we were seen as relegation certainties, and we were in our first season of Championship money. 3 seasons in, I've a reasonable idea of what income is being generated, admittedly no idea on expectations of salary of candidates, but I refuse, point blank, to accept that Blackpool can afford Holloway, Colchester can afford Boothroyd, and we can only afford Robins. The most worrying thing is the "we're not interviewing any other candidates at this stage". That says it all.

    Thats how it works

on internet forums, no grey area, win your argument or be damned.

Its not my money at the end of the day, so I shouldnt be so arsey about who Patrick appoints, but considering the **** thats been posted on here about Davey, I think its only right that someone puts the other side of the coin.

Do you reckon Curbishley is a serious option?

    RE: dangerous game...

It all depends on how much talking we are doing with these other people. Rotherham have gone public, and robins is literally just down the road. We have no idea how much we are in contact with other people, whether we have spoken to other chairmen to get permission. If the other options are currently working and based down south, they can't just nip in for a chat like Robins could.

My point is we have no idea who or what is going on. But several times the chronicle makes the point that other people are being talked to. So it just doesn't sound cut and dried to me. Of course that means we will make the announcement shortly to prove me wrong!

    There's no other options

thats just being put out to play the game, make it look like its being done diligently and make Robins and his agent fret and hasten their negotiation. Its Robins' job if he wants it, and it sounds like he does.

1 candidate, 1 interview, appointment signed and sealed.

If that is the case then I don't understand their decision to not consider other options.

But if he was their clear choice, and they went out and got him (**if** we get him), then fair play to them for being so decisive and following their conviction. Even if its not what I would have done.

Steady, criticism of domestic pets and the madness of their owners is enough to cause uproar on here.

    But come on

What kind of fool has time to write in with a birthday message for their dog, apart from perhaps a teacher having a day off for 'marking' or summat

Dear folk of Rotherham. The dog doesn't go online when you go down to Greggs, It stays in its basket licking its balls.

Why do you find that staggering?

Wanting Davey out and wanting Robins in are not exactly the same thing.

I wanted Davey out because his number was up - we limped through the second half of last season and we were lucky to survive.

I want Robins in because he's a promising young manager with a lot to offer us whilst beiing realistically within our means (i.e. lets put all the Curbishley stuff to one side shall we?).

Yes - I'd prefer Danny Wilson - but then plenty of people have thrown the 'never go back' comment at me or have suggested that his form since leaving us hasn't been good enough. The question is 'Is anybody good enough for Barnsley F.C.?' - and the ironic situation is that, like it or not, we're going to have to gamble on someone.

While S.M. says (full of confidence) 'we can do better' the truth is nobody actually knows. Robins, in my eyes, is certainly less of a gamble than Davey was. As for anyone saying 'I'll wait and see if we get relegated and then we'll see how good Davey was' is about as constructive as suggesting 'I'll wait and see if we finish midtable and then we'll see how good Davey wasn't'. FFS - I think we could all see that it was falling apart for Davey and it was time to say goodbye.

Surely that can't be the case?

Anyone who comes in should be entitled to bring in his own backroom staff - its the equivalent of saying that he can't adjust the height of Simon Davey's chair at the desk 'Just get on with it'. 'Can I make any signings?' NOPE only allowed to go with what Davey has left for you. 'Can I get the changing rooms swept out?' Er yes, but on in the fashion that we did it with Davey in charge.

What's the point in changing the manger and not letting him change the stuff around him to suit his requirements? It's not exactly like he's demanding that we sign Diddier Drogba is it? Or maybe Robins has a twenty-five strong M.C. Hammer style entourage...

    I just hope it's more crap paper talk/speculation. :D
