Nearly all keepers are good shot stoppersthough. I'm sure plenty of other keepers would make those saves. Davies all round game just doesn't seem to have improved in all the time he has been here. The fact we don't have to defend as much is the only reason he's not dropped as many clangers for me. d make saves.
That 2nd goal fault lies with a Lindsey for me. He clearly thinks the flight of the ball would run quicker to Davies and then tries blocking the player off when he should have just booted it clear or headed it back.
To be fair they both made a mess of it. Davies should be screaming off his line and clearing. If there's no shout, Lindsay should be hooking it away. Both were at fault. Neither of them wnakers.
I stand by my initial comment on this thread re Davies. I agree 100% though, that the OTT criticism of Davies generally and ANY abuse is way out of line. On the other hand I don't consider him to be the" best keeper in League 1" as one poster has put. Plus points: His shot stopping is excellent his distribution which has improved (apart from a couple of rare occasions when he has rolled the ball out to Cavare who had no real outlet) He has recently often released the ball quickly and started swift counter attacks something he didn't used to do. On the negative side, movement in the area and command of it is woefully lacking at times and something that does not seem to be improving. This is painfully evident with corners and free kicks. Yesterday for goal one he stood rooted to the goal line and was beaten at his near post. He often seems to flap at crosses close to the goal line. That said our normally solid defenders seemed to be beaten in the air nearly every time, not helped by the pushing and shoving going on that the referee seemed to ignore. The mix up for goal 2 IMHO was 60/40% Davies as he could see the situation and Lindsay had his back to the attacking player. Davies (particularly as he is Captain and supposed to give out instructions) should have shouted to him to hoof it . By comparison, that loan keeper?? we had several weeks back seemed to command his area, came and claimed crosses and inspired a lot more confidence (in me at least) on defending corners. In summary, I don't think Davies is a bad keeper but unless he improves on the one weakness in his game, we are too reliant on our back line to protect him. Lars Leese and Dave Watson were head and shoulders - literally in Lars (tall as Trees) Leese's case.
One error and your all over him .the guy made loads of quality saves and if Lindsay hadnt have ucked about and just got rid they wouldnt have scored
Two errors...what about the rush of blood when he came out of his area and they hit the crossbar? Our keeper all over, was that he then kept us in it by making 4 top saves, two straight after we conceded the 2nd goal.
I was at a gig last night so have only just seen the goal, but it was a defensive error which should've been booted into row z as far as im concerned.... calling him a ****** for this is massively out of order.
I know Baz(Dragon Tyke) and have done for years but he was out of order for personal abuse towards Davies last night for 2nd goal.
Can't blame him there he should have dealt with it. But Davies was facing play and should have just taken control of the situation. I suppose if he hadn't fumbled it then it wouldn't have mattered. A total **** up all round, it happens. I think he is decent enough for this league but has shown little sign of any improvement. I think this is underlined by the fact he's still here.
