I believe that Adam has always said that he sees himself working with kids and young pros in some sort of mentor role. By all accounts he's absolutely brilliant with youngsters. I know that he was an absolute star with my nephews when they were mascots. They were both quite small at the time, and he made them feel really at ease on what was a massive occasion for them.
He can't have had any 'resale value' when we brought him back to the Club for the last time. He was dead on his feet well before the end of the game against York City and Vicky was passing him energy pouches to keep him going. What we saw that night against York City was a master class in wing play and, at the end of the season he capped it off with a special goal at Wembley.
Loved him as a player but wouldn’t want him on the coaching staff unless he’d proven he could coach at a decent level & the manager wanted him. I think it always shows a sign of weakness trying to appease fans when you see clubs giving jobs to legends. Man Utd’s a perfect example of it, Giggs, Carrick, Phil Neville, Butt & now Van Nistelrooy. If you rate a manger you should have his coaching staff alongside him that have helped make him a success. You didn’t see Jurgen Klopp with Gerrard & Carragher as his assistants or Guardiola with Bellamy & Richards as his.
Sorry I meant first team staff. It just leads to issues. Every time you have a bad run there will be talk of the legend replacing the manager. Im a bit skeptical about it here with Hourihane but things seem good at the moment.
So that's (at least) two legends who had an appalling way of leaving the club... Redfearn & Hammill. And it really does anger me thinking back now, to how badly and ignorantly Conway 'ran' the club.
