Durkar but if you want Barnsley Mapplewell ‘s the place to be seen , decent pubs and restaurants, golf course and not too far from Durkar !!
Ardsley is pretty good, I lived there for 25 years, on the main Barnsley/Doncaster road so well placed for work at either side of the town...some nice walks and a bit of countryside at the top of Ardsley Hill.
All depends on what you want/can afford mate. I'm Town Centre - class being able to walk into Town, 5 mins to M1, plenty of schools about etc. But if you want to be out I'd look at Mapplewell/Staincross/Darton - good area, nice places to eat etc. If you're loaded Penistone/Cawthorne but great schools. If you've got £150k you'll find something nice with space for the three of you easy enough.
Really appreciate all the feedback Had our house valued last year and was estimated at around 275k I think from memory Think we'd need to go up one match weekend and have a look around some of the areas mentioned
If you've got nearly £300k to spend then you can pretty much pick where you wanna be and walk straight into something done & dusted mate. You'll be fine - shout if you've any questions, childcare and schools will be the big thing for you I'd imagine. Childcare a bit of a nightmare but happy to share where we go etc.
I'd definitely recommend round here (Silkstone Common) and surrounding area, likes of Oxspring, Wortley, Thurgoland etc all really nice and quiet. Cawthorne is likely to be out of your budget for that. Depends what you want. I want something as remote as possible in this area next! We're selling ours soon
Depending on budget, the obvious areas would be Penistone or Cawthorne. Cawthorne is a very peaceful, quiet place to live if but a little bit "Hot Fuzz". Notton is really nice too. It just depends on budget, and what you're wanting from the local area you're going to live in. If you like a night out in nice pubs with plenty of goings on them Mapplewell might be a good shout. Loads of nice areas really.
I spent the first 20 yrs of my life in the greatest village with the greatest community (at the time. Can't speak for now) on God's earth. (Mi dad said so n'all n he was from Hoyland ) JUMP.
My mate lives at Thurgoland and I’ve a few customers in the village as well. I’ve a feeling it might be an expensive place to buy a property though.
A bit further afield and near where I am is ackworth . A couple of decent pubs and Ponte races only a few miles away
Wath's 50/50. Great people, but also some right headbangers knocking around. I'd probably say avoid the Dearne Valley (Thurnscoe/Gold/Grimethorpe) at all costs! Oh and avoid Lundwood, they don't like outsiders.
mapplewell/staincross and darton. Avoid grimey, goldthorpe, kendray, lundwood and athersley north. I'm from darton, lived in athersley south for a year was OK, lived in mapplewell for last 7 years but moving to Overton soon near middlestown. Would've stayed round here but no property we liked came up, so ended up with a lovely plot and project house in Overton. Not far from barnsley in all fairness
stop it nar made me laugh so much nearly piss mi sen obviously Elsecar much better than jump, transport, park, heritage centre and after saying that we still have areas and people who dont care about the area they live in. Jump not too bad to be fair, and hemingfield
Morrisons hq is in Bradford, so potentially somewhere nearer M1 on the north side might work (depending on schools). So Woolley, Notton, West Bretton, Darton or Kexbrough might be worth a look. as others have mentioned, Penistone is good, but can get cut off a bit if it snows (buses aren’t as regular as other places that have been mentioned). Plenty of “new build” going on though.
