Agreed. If you're reading this Phil let me take you on a walk up to Howden Edge from Langsett one day. I'll even make you a cup of tea when we get there, and you can have as many pints as you want in the pub afterwards. Seriously.

As luck would have it, both Jack Butland and Luke Steele have played 32 games this season. Luke Steele has conceded 56 and Jack Butland has conceded 51. Pretty similar stats really.

Posting it again so he can't miss it.

In his games for us Jack Butland let in a total of 16 goals and made 22 saves. That means he let in 42% of shots on target.

Luke Steele conceded 58 goals and made 98 saves. That means he let in 37% of shots on target.

If you don't know, letting in 37% is better than letting in 42% of shots on target.

And I assume from those figures that it includes quite a few of Butlands Leeds games. With statistically a better defensive, midfield and attack in front of him than Luke Steele.

Thanks Jay. Your number crunching has proven what I already knew, from using my 'mince pies'...that's there nowt between them.

Be aware that there are people who must always be right. In this case, the idea of an argument is futile and you need to change the subject or shut down any argument. This isn't about giving in to someone with a difficult personality or a stubborn will; it's about recognizing that your own time and mental health are more valuable than launching into proving such a person wrong. As far as that sort of person is concerned, he or she will never be wrong, so you really are wasting your time.

    @Hemsworth Tyke

I decided to more properly crunch the numbers. I compared games against the same opponents by Steele and Butland (for Leeds). The results are as follows:

    Butland
26 goals conceded, 34 saves. 43% of shots on target conceded

    Steele
15 goals conceded, 42 saves. 26% of shots on target conceded

Right then here goes, Jack Butland figures (league games only): -

Barnsley: 13 games, conceded 16, goals per game 1.23
Stoke: 3 games, conceded 7, goals per game 2.33
Leeds: 15 games, conceded 27, goals per game 1.80

Overall: 31 games, conceded 50, goals per game 1.61

    Luke Steele figures:

Barnsley: 29 games, conceded 52, goals per game 1.83

Luke Steele played all his games in a relegated team. Jack Butland played about half his games in a mid-table team (well, they were until he arrived!). Strange thing is that Butland's record at Leeds was similar to Steele's at Barnsley, must have been the off-field unrest that caused it.

Bobby Hassell has only ever let two goals in as a reds keeper. Both of em penalties. Not conceded in open play. 100% win ratio. So I'd suggest stats can prove whatever tha wants em to.

    England's Number One. Bobby Hassell.

I was there. The same day future England captain John Stones scored his only BFC goal.

    Another stat/fact.

Keith Hill (BFC's worst ever manager apparently) sent a team out with Kennedy at right back and Dagnall, Mellis and Davies in it, and they scored FIVE TIMES against Jack Butland. :)

After crunching a few numbers of my own, I've worked out that in the last week you've had about a million pops at Luke Steele.

I've counted two million audible groans from other members of the BBS.

    PLEASE give it a rest.

Thats really quite interesting - though if you did that to try and win an argument with Hemsworth you really were wasting your time

My view for what its worth and from watching both of them play for Barnsley is there isnt a lot to chose between them.

They both have faults and both are usually good shot stoppers. With experience I would expect Butland to become a better keeper and play for a Prem side but all of this is completely irrelevant. The fact is both played well for Barnsley this season - in fact Goalkeeper has been one of the few positions I have been happy with

There is no doubt that Butland suffered a dip in form when he went to Leeds though - no idea why

Does that include the games Butland played for Leeds and Stoke?

Would you have posted this if Steele's numbers were better than Butland?

The fact is, Butland was a fantastic short term loan signing for the club. He never was and is ever going to be any more than that. Luke Steele is a very good goalkeeper. We will not find better on the budget we have.

    Are you serious?

Phil why do you do this?

It is every few days where by you have a pop at either Wilson Steele or Hassell?

    What is the issue?
