Questions How often did you watch Watford and can therefore assert that he has no plan B? Did he not do a good job at Watford then? Has he openly said he's applied for jobs and if so which? Then if we know who beat him to it we can get more of an idea. Maybe he turned one or more of those down? It does happen where managers will do an interview but not be happy from their side and therefore not want the job. I'm not saying I want him, he's just one of 3 or 4 I'd like to see us speak to.
Huddersfield to name the most recent i can recall. kick and rush being the main concensus of the watford forums when the club was under his leadership. Drasitically over achived by getting promoted and sunk like a brick afterwards. A man highly thought of as one of the brightest young managers in english football has vanished from sight.
Boothroyd didn't get turned down for the huddersfield job it was the opposite. He turned them down because he wanted a break at the time
I've just read a thread on a football league forum that I use... from the day that Boothroyd got sacked from Watford. It is safe to say that the Watford fans were not impressed that he had been dismissed and that several fans of other clubs spoke up saying that they wanted him to come to their club - including Huddersfield fans. The Watford fans blamed the board for the situation as they sold all of his best players from under him, and said that while he had made a couple of poor signings (Ellington was the one named, and I think most people would have been delighted if we got him!), he was not to blame at all for the situation they were in. Thats just a small view of their fans honestly, but I'd certainly say he was worth talking to.
More like When all his first team players were sold/loaned out due to financial strife they nosedived.
and 67 conceded... by hoofing the ball up and down the pitch, players were so spread out (both sides) that chances to score were almost inevitable. (Note: this is not the same as saying it is exciting to watch). The difference was, in the play off season to which you refer, we had a bloke called Craig Hignett - who, it has to be said, Bassett initially could not find a place for in his 'system'. Without Hignett, we were nothing (except unentertaining). But I see you don't care if we're boring, as long as we win. I've yet to see a manager who can guarantee wins..and if there was a system which COULD guarantee wins, then everyone would do it and then.... Sometimes I think you're just trying to get a response. In which case, well done. And btw, the prob with Boothroyd is he's just another Davey...gets promoted quickly, decent 1st season, no improvement thereafter. Were Watford fans sorry to see him go? No. I just hope the powers that be are as paronoid as the previous chairman (I forget his name) and have spies monitoring this board. In which case, give me ENTERTAINING FOOTBALL. No-one can guarantee results, but manager's CAN affect a passing game that's pleasing on the eye.
RE: If it is Tony Adams then I'll be lumping on for us to be relegation certainties. nt you'll not get any odds worth taking
Stoke play good football??? Now I KNOW you're just trying to get a response. If one remembers the season they went up, they were all long ball, physical and diving. They were the one of the ugliest teams I've ever seen and I was happy for them to go up, if only so I didn't have to see them again. I also seem to remember their fans booed them off despite scoring a late equalizer, calling for the manager's head. By the way, I wonder of the huge team pic you attach is the reason posts are so slow to open?
I wouldn't say we were unentertaining that season 150-odd goals in our matches was pretty exciting and I don't think we were boring at all. I'm not sure Watford fans were happy when Boothroyd left - what have they done since? You know why there was no improvement after that play off season? Players he had to let go: Marlon King, Clarke Carlisle, Hameur Bouazza, Gavin Mahon, Tamas Priskin, Dan Shittu, Darius Henderson, Nathan Ellington (on a season loan to a league rival not long after signing him for £3m), Lee Williamson, John Eustace and Jon-Joe O'Toole.
we were 4th in the league and my mate and I couldn't decide whether to go to the game or stay in the pub. The quality of football under Bassett was woeful, but I have to conceed that we were getting results. Also I've never forgiven him for replacing DeZeeuw with Chettle and Tuttle, and for not giving Hristov an extended run in the team in the latter end of the season oh and for being a Cockernee gobshite. He was lucky that he was blessed with one of the best players I've seen in my 36 years in watching Barnsley, Craig Hignett... who he signed ......er no that would be Hendrie.
My point was That Stoke played and still play some good football alongside their physical approach. Yes their conduct in that 3-3 draw at Oakwell was very poor, but I'm not shortsighted enough to use that game alone as evidence of their style of play. They use wingers and play fast attacking football... it's not just lumped up to their big strikers, they get the ball wide a lot and put crosses in. Liam Lawrence is one of their favourite players.
RE: Boothroyd didn't get turned down for the huddersfield job He accepted the job, Huddersfield announced the press conference, Boothroyd pulled out and Huddersfield did a press conference announcing no manager and then went for Tennant.
Watford fans failed to take to him even when he got them promotion Imagine how he'll get on with our lot? Thing is, playing long ball football is fine while you're winning games, but the minute results take a nose dive the fans are on your back quicker than you can say 'Davey Out'. He's also a boring ex scum get, and I don't want him anywhere near Barnsley football club. Paul Jewell - nobody else
