Tune..... as young people say. I had the album design stencilled onto the back of my denim jacket for trips to The Nash and The Bells on Wellington Street. Was listening to Moving Pictures last night.
First album Bridge Over Troubled Water Simon and Garfunkel 2nd Madman Across the Water Elton John 3rd Close to the Edge Yes
Saw them at at The Ledmill in the early 80s. I asked if they could keep it down because we were trying to talk. Adam Clayton told me to F**k Off. Next saw them at Manchester Apollo 1985 with 5000 then lastly at Bellend Rd in 87 I think it was. Some great early stuff.
Boston - More Than a Feeling. Mainly cos my mates were into it. First single was Metal Guru - TRex cos it was cheap as it was an ex-juke box record with centre drilled out but little plastic insert - remember them?
Went to London for a week's holiday summer 1972, went to one of the shops that advertised cheap LPs in the NME and spent all my holiday spending money on - Pink Floyd - Meddle King Crimson - Lizard Emerson Lake and Palmer - Trilogy Yes - The Yes Album
The Yes Album was one of my early purchases too. On cassette initially, then later replaced on CD. I seem to remember that it was one of those albums where the cassette version had a slightly different running order to the vinyl, due to limitations re: tape length (or some such). Night At The Opera was the same. A bit of a shock when you later start to hear the songs in the correct order!
You sound like my dad @Brush After years of waxing lyrical about King Crimson, I finally listened to the album he gave me the other day (Court of the CK) and have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Love the closing track
Have you come across the album Space Shanty by Khan? It's something that Steve Hillage did in his early days. I really like it, even after all these years, and based on the 4 albums you mention above, it could be right up your street. All the tracks are on YouTube, I believe.
"Out of the Shadows" by The Shadows. I got it for Christmas 1962.Played it on our 'Portadyne' record player. We couldn't afford a 'Dansette'.
I enjoyed listening to it as a stand alone album but I'm not a big prog fan either to be honest. I thought musically the record is exceptional, lyrically it's bonkers. Enjoyed it all the same. Not heard Red
The first Album I bought with my own money and most influential was Dylan's Freewheelin'. Most influential that is until his next one.
Creatively and technically KC are incredible. Sometimes it's a challenging listen. But got to give them props for who they've influened. Supposedly the big riffs on Red was the influence for grunge.
The album "Thrak" by King Crimson is worth a listen too. I really like this one from that album - Dinosaur
I had the great pleasure of seeing Crimson at Nottingham in 2018, they played mostly stuff from the first 6 albums and all of Court.... blinding gig.
Yes, I downloaded it a few years ago, very good but not as good as Fish Rising. Saw Steve Hillage several times both solo and as a member of Gong. Including the Queen free concert in Hyde Park (1977?). Fantastic guitarist.
