We did, but we won more games with 451 than 442. If anything Moore nad mcburnie are more suited to 451.

    4-4-2

I don't think it's the be all and end all of formations, but I do think it's the simplest to understand.

Davies in goal, whichever two centre halves are fit, there's nowt between 'em as far as I'm concerned, they're all OK.

Full backs Yiadom and Fryers or MacCarthy and Yiadom, wingers Hammill and Isgrove, up front McBurnie and Moore. We get crosses in for two guys who are good in the air. Full backs overlap wingers, everyone instructed to get crosses in.

Gardner and Williams protecting the back four and they play it out wide at every opportunity so we can get crosses in.

When Hammill and Isgrove tire, or if they're not performing, replace with Hedges and Thiam. If Moore or McBurnie tire, replace with Bradshaw. Keep getting the ball out wide, keep getting crosses in.

Will it work? I don't know, I just think it plays to the strengths of the squad and gives us the best chance.

They shall not pass! And hoofball for Keiffer and Oli to pick the bones out of. Start with a point, and get something better out of it if the opportunity arises.

I think the 433 needs knocking on head. I' go 442,
    Davies

    Fryers Jackson Lindsay yiadom

    Thiam potts Williams hammill

    Moore mcburnie

Davies as he isn't the best and doubt he fills the back 4 with any confidence but he is better than the alternative. The back 4 picks it's self if pinnock still unavailable, thiam is improving and against millwall was one of the few positives was involved in both goals at brum the one at hull and set mcburnie up for a chance that was cleared off the line against millwall. I was going to put Gardner in center mid but changed it for Potts because at least Potts wants to go forward all abit too crabby with Williams and Gardner.
Jose has had alot of stick for leaving hammill out scince promotion I have seen very little to prove that Adam is upto this level but I like him and he wears his heart on his sleave sometimes good sometimes bad I can see why he hasn't featured much
    The top two easy pick.

I’d just go with what I perceive to be our best 11 with McBurnie been able to drop off & make the extra man in midfield when needed. We’ve seen that he’s willing to try & help defensively & we can certainly say he’s got the link up play to drop deep & he can chip in with goals even when not starting as an out & out striker due to his movement.

    Davies
    Cavare Jackson Lindsay Yiadom
    Isgrove Williams Gardner Hammill
    McBurnie
    Moore

Bench - Townsend, Pinnock, Fryers, Potts, Moncur, Hedges, Bradshaw

Harsh on Thiam but I think if we need a game changer off the bench Hedges is a better substitute & Bradshaw’s a better striking option over him as well.

Wouldn’t argue with McCarthy over Cavare or Pinnock over Jackson. Pretty close calls.

Fryers on the bench as he’s left footed so he can replace Yiadom directly or Yiadom can go right back if Cavare gets injured.

I’ve heard the arguments about Gardner & Williams ‘not been able to play together’ but I’ve not seen any better partnerships & they’ve never played together in the side above.

I know Hammill & Isgrove haven’t created many goals but they’ve also been delivering crosses to Bradshaw & Ugbo most of the season. Both of them excelled at delivering crosses to bigger forwards with an aerial threat in Winnall & Fletcher & I think we’d create more chances this way than in the current system Jose plays.

We are creating chances in this much maligned system though - just poor players not taking them

    I think the same.

I think it’s why Hecky signed who he did in January & it’s how we would’ve played if he’d stayed. I want to see it mainly because of the first half against Fulham which for me’s the best we’ve played all season & that was without McBurnie

The problem I have with the team you have chosen is zero creativity in midfield Williams and Gardner together in midfield abit too crabby for my liking. Hammill has showed very little for 2 seasons in this league been a great player for us in the past.and still living off this and isgrove hit and miss.

    Try this one

    4132

    Walton
    Cavare, pinnock, Jackson, yiadom
    Gardner
    Moncur Potts Knasmullner
    Mcburnie Moore

    Or

    442

    Davies
    Mccarthy Lyndsay Jackson. Yiadom
    Hammill Potts Williams isgrove
    M&M

Whatever he picks it's tough I've no confidence of us getting anything today. My son has said he's not bothered for going which is really disheartening for me. Jose 433

    Davies
    Yids lyndsay Jackson pinnillos
    Williams Gardner potts
    Thiam Moore mcburnie.

I said a few months ago that playing Williams and Gardner together would get us relegated. Seen nothing to make me change my mind. If Millwall hadn't scored from Mallan's only mistake, from a stupid throw-in, I believe things may well have worked out completely differently (the irony being that Williams gives the ball away in daft places on a regular basis). Not there today as we are in Spain. Hoping against hope that things turn out OK.
