I didn't sing it. Nothing to do with being unpatriotic, but I don't believe in God or monarchy, so I'd be daft to sing it. Our national anthem doesn't represent what I want to celebrate about England, and in fact reflects the worst of the nation's history - the idea that some people are just more important than others. Incidentally, I am told by a very good source that Craig Hignett sang Meatloaf during the national anthem when we played at Wembley in 2000!
Four of us went , two sang two didn't. I did..I agree it's a bit of an anachronism..I also agree with some of the comments about it being representational..or not. However I'm not a republican...constitutional monarchy suits me fine....much rather have HM Queen than President Thatcher, Major...Blair or Cameron.
Dont agree with the words at all and I think its a farce we are forced to have it as our national anthem while the others have their own specialised anthems. However, I do still sing it at England games but not on sunday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't sing. Both the anthem and the monarchy are anachronistic and completely at odds with the idea of a democratic, meritocratic society.
Everybody around us belted it out with gusto in celebration and in respect of our Britannic Majesty. Too many 5th columnists on here.
I just stood there wondering who the bird was singing it, while Mrs C air drummed. The royals are good for a laugh and the tourist coin, but no way I'm kissing their elitist arses with that racist piece of ****. 'Rebellious Scots to crush'? **** that.
I'm an atheist and a republican. I stood looking around waiting for the match to start whilst it was sung.
