Amazing - but true...

    The jumbled word thing only really works with normal sentences rather than individual words.

    It's far less easy with one-off words:

    trorfeehe

    betread

    sscailptk

    meirard

    taicopl

    hingelag

    Rather than just look at the whole word, our brains seem to prefer logical lexical chunks for this test to work well.

    There's no clear agreement on how our brains actually process reading though - just a bunch of theories. Studying them is a decent insomnia cure.

    although I must admit, I am better than Kevin Donovan.

    Well, on the face of it, that would seem to be the problem

    as I am often "not sober"

    However, having seen Mr.Donovan at close quarters, I'm not sure if he was in full control of his faculties either!
