The Bush administration is more popular than we like to think, and many people see McCain as a continuation of the same kind of stewardship implemented by Bush, which is why people( many of whom are keeping their mouths shut in the polls) will vote for McCain in order to allow the gunslinging attitude of the white house to carry on, as it is an attitude which is very popular amongst americans.
absolutely the American dream is all Barbie and Ken and good ole boys..... it has no place or tolerance for any other.
Re: America '08 I think the exact opposite. For him to get to such a stage now to me dispels that argument. I think that actually the UK is the most privately racist country in the world. Could you see a black/British Muslim becoming leader of one of our big 2 political parties and gaining so much public support? No chance.
Re: America '08 if the fella wins it transforms overnight the "blackman" , from being a less than second class citizens, to equality ..and 'Uncle Sam' will simply not tolerate that, sadly. Martin Luther King was on that track , and look what happened to him.
Re: America '08 I agree with that, but for them to first of all nominate Obama & for him to gain so much support is commendable. I just can't see it happening in the UK.
Re: America '08 No. A little before my time. She's not exactly an ethnic minority though is she? Do you think the UK will see a PM from a minority background soon? Or at the least one in such a position as Obama?
an ethnic minority? no, but.. a woman, and Britain is a very male dominated place, sorry ladies but it is. Look at the job fronts and you see inequality everywhere
So if that's the case And they are the "biggest racist country" - when will we have a non-white Prime Minister then? Specifically one of Asian origin?
A rednecked Yankee I went to watch the Yankees once and it was very sunny - lot's of people got sunburnt - loads of rednecked Yankees there!
RE: So if that's the case Is it a question of colour of skin or one of religion? If Obama was a black Muslim would he be so popular, or if there was a candidate in Britain who was an Asian Muslim, what would it be that would go against them? I don't think it is all down to racism.
RE: So if that's the case Well the Republicans (and other Democrats during the Primaries for that matter) have tried to claim he's a Muslim to try to smear him. The best comment against that came from Colin Powell, who said that even if he was, why should that matter.
The US economy and their influence in the world mean it should concern you as it will have some effect on you, maybe subtle, maybe not.
RE: So if that's the case Feelings on Religion run deeper than those of race and I don't think a Muslim would be a popular vote. But I think Powell is right though, why should it matter, it should be the Politics that people are voting on.
RE: The US economy and their influence in the world still no... who´s president does not decide the world economy. there is other mechanisms who decide that.
