Its ironic isn't it not the article itself, but the fact that we are always complaining about the americans sense of humopur ... and yet its a Brit that can't recognise a 'tongue in cheek' article when they see one.</p> Never understood the anti american sentiment that pervades this country and its media. Personally I've always found them to be spot on, and I've certainly more in common with them than I have say the french</p>
Not Ed Smith but this book Typical me get half the story right</p> http://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/biblio?inkey=62-0786420405-2</p>
It was in the Guardian But I also came across this "But it was the MCC that finally did for American cricket. After World War I, the sport underwent a revival in the USA.. And then along came the Imperial Cricket Conference (an MCC front organisation) and shut the Americans out from the international game. Isolated, American cricket finally withered and died."
how can you play without a draw- and how can they complain about this say it's barnsley Vs Chelsea in a would be league situation. somehow it's still 0-0 it Full Time are we really going to want to surrender another 30mins and penalties, i dont think so one point is better than none at all surely they have similar situations..</p> If they think they cannot have a draw that surely means the'd rather have a chance at losing, and lets face it in english football, you can finish alot higher with those odd 1 points than zero, especially if you're in relegation spots.</p>
i went to watch baseballa nd that just adds to the stupidity because if football is aimless with hardkly any points and men running around for nothing, then sitting 5minutes waiting for these "proffessional ball fondlers" to actually hit the Barsteward thing was the worst few hours of my life. but i know realise why every one at baseball games are eating, its the only thing to liven you up.</p> Atleast in cricket you see some excitement, and even if you dont know all the rules a 6 and a 4 is a lot more exciting than "striiiiiiiiiiiiiiike 3"</p>
RE: i went to watch baseballa nd that just adds to the stupidity "At least in cricket you see some excitement" - really? You are going for irony right? Cricket is tedious 90% of the time, you've got a team out there for hours on end and you've no idea if it's going to be a close game or not until a hour before it finishes. Baseball has an ebb and flow about it that you don't get with cricket.
wait wait for it, im really uinto this now - rugby So american football eh, a bunch of fat lads running around protected by a half inch of steel, and suddenly its the best game in the world with the toughest players.</p> I'd like to see them in a scrum with the english front line. we might look over weight but they can run for 80 minutes. jason robinson coud beat a full team of them single handedly to a touch down.</p>
RE: Its ironic isn't it Has anyone actually watched an American Sport? There all apart from the last minute of Basketball depressing to watch. And how many other countries play, Basketball, Baseball, And the depressing American Football? Probably tells you a bit about American ignorance. I can watch Ice Hockey, but thats probaly more Canadian,Russian and Scandanavian rather than American.
RE: wait wait for it, im really uinto this now - rugby I take it you don't watch American Football much?
fantastic this is extremely funny on at least two levels. its funny to hear an american describe football and their total lack of understanding is amusing also. thanks for the post.
Should watch Sky's "Inside The NFL" - David James and Martin Johnson spent a while over there in Seattle, quite an eye opener into sport in the US.
RE: How does playing a different sport make someone ignorant ? nt Strange - he doesn't know how many other countries play basketball and baseball but then says that it says more about American ignorance rather than his own! He probably doesn't even know that this year saw the first World Baseball Classic take place and that Japan beat Cuba in the final. Next one due in 2009 I think.
