    RE: Worse than HGV drivers.............

Its a little known fact but I am sure I am right in saying that undertaking is not a specific motoring offence, although most people think that it is - someone can correct me if I am wrong. You can however, be done for inconsiderate driving if caught, but it is not guaranteed that you will be done at all, even if caught in the act - depends on the circumstances I suppose.

I have taken to undertaking quite a lot when I am already in the inside lane and am approaching a CLOD with nothing in front of them for miles - I always slow down just as I am passing them on their left to stare at them with a look of exasperation. :D

    Dear Mancunian Tyke

As a driver that drives a non-HGV (7.5 tonne) I feel obliged to reply.

My vehicle is restricted to 56mph, so all this about travelling at "0.0000000001mph" is'nt my own doing. It's the law. I'm only doing what everyone else is doing, driving. It may take a mile or so to overtake, but you can use the outside lane to overtake. I can't.
As for using mirrors, there maybe some that don't (Bus Drivers, BMW drivers) but dont tar us all with the same brush. I could say the same about car drivers changing lanes in a last minute attempt to get to a junction, or pulling up sharp infront of something a hell of a lot heavier than a car, but expect it to brake just the same.

We're all road users, at the end of the day, and we should look out for eachother.

    Regards, Longley

P.S. The computer that you're reading this on, where did it come from?
Did a car bring it from the manufacturer?

    I don't think so.

I'm not saying you all do it, I'm just getting a bit fed up of it lately because I'm doing a lot more motorway driving and nearly had 2 accidents in last 24 hours as a result of HGV drivers who do not check their wing mirrors properly when moving out either because they don't look properly or because they're wing mirror isn't properly positioned.

Outside lane wasn't an option as it was only a 2 lane system (A64 on way to York if you must know).

My computer came in separate parts through the post as I built it myself. I believe most of it came in one of those small post office vans :D

I know there are plenty of good HGV drivers but I was just a bit pissed off with the ever growing number of inconsiderate ones. They're probably foreign anyway.

.............Being an HGV driver, my wagon might be limited to 54 miles an hour and the guy i'm going to overtake might be 53 miles an hour, there is no way i'm gonna sit behind him till he decides to turn off the motorway, yeh it will cause a tailback, but as soon as i'm out of his bad wind as they say i'm gone, plus it also depends on the guy i'm overtaking cos he might just ease off knowing i'm slightly quicker then him....

so, you can go 24 miles further in 24 hours, that really does make a difference, and a valid reason to slow down all other traffic that can easily go faster than yourselves????????

by the way, you may have 44 ton but remember if YOU drive into the arse end of someone, YOU are at fault, or doesnt the law cover imbeciles like you?

    Dear HGV driver

Put your newspaper down. And it's common practice to drive with at least one hand on the wheel.

    Thanks,
    Vital Tyke

    MMMMMMM.................very interesting

    So basically we can "undertake"

I am so tempted to buy one of those stickers but add a couple of other things to it!!

Fair enough, but experience has taught me to second guess what the driver in front is doing, and the road ahead.

The tell-tale sign's are there, it's just a case of reading them. Skidmarks on the road when appraching a blind bend, or paying attention to the different white road markings.

Next time, when you're about to overtake a HGV or any other vehicle, look in his mirror. It's the old "If you cant see my mirror's I cant see you" thing.
