ok we are an amazing team akin to the 1970 Brazilian team. We play total football. Max Watters is the best forward in world football. Jack Shepherd is like a young Franco Baresi. Given the amazing football we play I suspect man Citeh will be knocking on our door soon to swap Pep for Neill. I am of course talking about the quality of the football on offer. In terms of the league table we are doing well. The overall quality of the league is as poor as I can remember. So looking at the times we have been in this division and the quality of both the team and the opposition it’s my view we are average. It’s your view we are amazing. It’s all opinions isn’t it. If you were to compare us with our last two promotion teams from this division would you say we were better or worse?
my balanced view is that we are an average team in a poor league. I am pleased with the position we find ourselves in. The football is pedestrian one paced and dull. A good team would have been 4 goals up in 12 minutes last night. Luckily most teams in this division are awful. We are blessed with just a little bit extra quality upfront and sometimes in midfield. This is more than the awful teams can cope with and this extra quality drags us through. Collins has my support. The team gave my support. But I am firmly in the centre I neither think we are awful nor do I pretend we are amazing. Others should try balance.
Where have I said we are amazing? We aren't but we are better than average for this league. We arent close to the side that went up under Hecky once Hammill was signed I dont think we are as good as the side Stendell got us promoted with either - but both of those were well above average I dont even think we are as good as last season due to the entire defence (except Williams) being sold but despite that we have more points than last seasons team at this stage. I expect that to change over the next 4 games but so far we are doing alright. We've already got enough points to make us virtually safe from relegation and there are still 20 games left - that doesnt sound average to me
Said the same in an earlier thread. Scowen looked good when we played Wycombe. Hadn't lost his happy knack of sniffing out early signs of danger. We just rely on the opposition's poor finishing which admittedly seems to be working to a degree.
That's the issue I think for me - when posters try to show a bit of patience with the "sack him" brigade, they're met with "well you must be ecstatic at how were playing, isn't it fantastic". No. Nobody is saying that. We always want improvement, I certainly do. I want us to batter teams, and not make stupid errors like last night. I want us to press like under Val and smash teams to pieces. But because that isn't happening doesn't mean that he should be sacked.
To be fair mate, if you’ve been watching them 60 years they will have been an average 2nd tier team .
I still don't understand this ridiculous way of thinking. If we were regularly struggling and inconsistent and in mid table, with only 9th place being the best we could hope for... then I'd definitely agree that we're only an average side.
Fair comment. There are some periods of play where we press or attack with speed and directness - sadly they are only small brief period within games. Could we be doing better? Maybe, but with the dogs dinner of defenders we have, any plans Collins has are hampered by the lack of experience quality in that dept.
