    Okay...

I don't think he should be trying to use JCR in that central role as his strength is really his pace, and that is best used out wide

    RE: What was he then?

One thing Brotyke, have we replaced his goals. And another thing, if JCR was ever going to replace what Howard brought to the team you are misguided...

    RE: What was he then?

I'm not the one who's misguided, Simon Davey is. I'd prefer to see JCR on either wing but with some improvement to his final ball. As to Howard's goals, if we are awarded enough penalties over the season, I'm quite sure that we will
    replace them.

How often do we see our strikers in the box though?? Macken drops far too deep to pick up the ball leaving odejayi and rigters to get in the box for a cross. When the ball goes out wide Makcen is too slow to get back into the box and that leaves 1 striker or quite frequently i see none of our strikers ready to attack the ball. One of our strikes should be making a run to the front post the other to back post but it doesnt happen often enough!

    That should be a doddle

for my money, the forwards sit too far back - and the more the game goes on, the worse it gets.

It doesn't matter how many are in the box they do not have the quality to score...Fact!

It's the managers job to "remind" them to do that

Clearly they need the law laying down.

Macken plays like he thinks he's some sort of "fantasista" - trotting around in the midfield, when he should be in the box.

It's also the Manager's job to ensure when in the box they put the ball in the net...

So, are you saying that our forwards just do their own thing once they get on the pitch and any plans that the manager may have formulated are just forgotten, or ignored.

    Howard made him look good

And he made Howard look good. They complimented each other very well. De Silva would stay back, break up play, create some space and make good simple passes. Howard would bomb forward, score and create goals. It was a quality midfield partnership. Now De Silva just looks lost as he's asked to push forward and he doesn't have a decent attacking midfielder to pass to.

Well what the hell are they doing on the training pitch?? All we hear from Davey is yes Odejayi scored plenty in a training match and rigters looked really good! The when a match day comes around they are absolute toss.

I have said this from day 1, we needed to keep both of them, not just one of them.
Howard and Da Silva were an ideal pairing, although I think Colace and Howard would have been very good too.

    Howard wanted to go

So I don't think there was much the club could have done about it, but I wish they'd have sorted it out in the summer. However, we don't seem to have made any effort to replace him which is folly in my opinion.

Howard did not want to go last season

when he wanted a new contract.
If we had given him one then, at least we could have cashed in and got somewhere near his worth.

    Yeah, that's what I'm saying

I'm picking on Macken in particular because he is the worst offender.

These guys need to be reminded that when we are on the attack, it is their job to get into the area and score goals.

And he was mostly crap this season

    form he's taken elsewhere.

Our midfield has generally looked more solid since his departure and our results certainly took an up turn.

A bad run and suddenly we forget it seems. ho hum.
