It was Roberts who had come out to challenge for the ball. MacDonald should have realised to come further around, not that Yiadoms positioning was completely faultless either.

The club put itself in that position though. We spent significantly on midfield and attack, but in comparison tried to put arguably the most important part of our team together on the cheap. There's no doubt in my mind we cocked up the transfer window defensively.

We cocked up selling our best defender for £5m and investing peanuts in return on 2 players who, and its only a guess in Jacksons case, arent up to playing at this level yet.

Agreed. Our defenders aren't bad for what we paid for them and for how little football they have played. But if they are as good as some make them out to be we'd not be conceding so many goals. Our attacking players are always being changed but defensive players are treated as undropable.

This thread is unbelievable, MacDonald has done himself proud since he came stepping up so many divisions.

But certain posters nit pick at little details like the lads are robots or something and are won't make mistakes.

Experienced PL players make mistakes so why wouldn't a player further down the football ladder. Analysing each little thing is so sad, that Hemsy lad thinks he's Gary Neville on Monday Night Football , get a grip lad. Too many know it all's already sat in studios dissecting every last thing on TV but who haven't got the talent to go and coach at the top level and some on here are just like that.

Very boring looking at the negatives all the time

We would have still conceded just as many with alfie at center back he was a talented lad with potential but he had a mistake or two in him. At fault for Huddersfields late winner. I don't think angus has done bad at all from what I have seen of him. But these players will always be the first target if we lose a game especially if they aren't from Barnsley aswell.

BBS, the home of the unappreciated super coach-manager-scouts.

Mistakes happen, and will happen throughout a season/footballers career. It's human nature.

Angus had a top game on Saturday. He's got better each game, and will continue to do so. The more experience he gains, the more he will improve.

One minute you're all for the recruitment policy in place, and the next you're all baying for blood. It's ridiculous.

It's not as if we're getting battered every week.

Maybe we should bring back the "experienced" Nyatanga then eh?

I'm more than happy with how young Angus has coped with the step up in class & believe he can only get better, too. For me, the policy of capturing young, but hungry talent (whether they be from Premier League clubs, or ones from much lower in the footballing pyramid) is both sustainable and successful. No short term blip in results alters that opinion. Where was all this criticism three weeks ago when we won at Wolves? Yet they are exactly the same set of lads.
I think it's highly unlikely that the club is able, or prepared, to bring in ready made Championship talent, based on the regular comments from Patrick Cryne and Paul Heckingbottom.

You clearly have your UEFA A Licence, why don't you tell us, and the clubs current staff?

We have brought in defenders in the past such as Hunt / Eckersley and others from Premier League clubs to 'develop' and watched them mostly fail to hit the mark.

We have brought in potentially class defenders from lower league clubs such as Roberts, Mawson and MacDonald and it's been a pleasure to see them hit the mark and improve.

I know which of the two strategies I prefer.

McDonald has been fine so far, I can't think of many mistakes he's made.

The contributions from some in this thread have been ridiculous.

The intention of the thread was to give some praise to a player who has just jumped up 3 divisions to play for us and a opposition supporter singled him out as our best player Saturday. .... Some people just can't help but put players down though then they wonder why sam winnall seems pissed off all time

There's not a player alive who doesn't make mistakes.
Unfortunately, some people think that picking faults (which is actually very easy), makes them look like they know alot about football.

The shame of it for me is that on here we're all supposed to support Barnsley. So endlessly picking faults in your own players is distasteful to say the least. If folks can't accept the limitations that our club has to operate under, and accept that players we are able to sign and/or develop are not the finished article, then they need to b#gger off and follow Chelsea, or Man City.

I for one see that the way BFC recruits players and develops them is a thing we should be proud of. In the last 18 months we have been pretty good at it.
