RE: the most horrendous conditions I have seen It wouldnt surprise me, but having not seen them I cant really comment.
RE: the most horrendous conditions I have seen Its related in part to their reluctance to use medicines. Wonder how they do the research for vetinary medicines???
I would leave the choice to the sufferer of cancer... he says, having had half his family wiped out by it. Your wife doesn't have to work there. I presume these animals aren't given a choice? (say, being shown 2 doors, they can either go through into a lush green field, or into a cosy cage). Course, if they're lemmings... Yours, A. Soapdodger
no saying "i condone the use of violence" is me saying i condone the use of violence. saying "i don't have much sympathy with those who torture animals" is me saying that i'm less sympathetic to their plight but still find the whole violence concept abhorrent. i agree with most of what you say tho. Nike and Gap wearers really don't have any conscience whatsoever or are ignorant to the whole SE Asia labour issue. Same for those who religiously buy petrol from Shell.
this is the bit i struggle with So you don't agree with using animals for medical research - that's your prerogative but make sure you check next time you go to hospital or to the chemist that you aren't receiving anything that was developed using animals at any point. i am against animal testing but at the same time i know that some of things that have kept my friends alive and eased the suffering on my relatives have quite clearly been developed/tested on animals. my conscience says we shouldn't but then i look at them and my whole argument falls apart as i start to feel selfish thinking "well no, it was right to do it. if we hadn't have they would be dead". put me in the situation when a relative of mine needs a drug that has been tested or if i'm at deaths door then i'm pretty sure i'd turn around and say what the ****, do it. this doesn't make me a hypocrite. sometimes i think that we should test on animals for medical reasons but then whats the difference between the medical testing and cosmetic testing and farming? its still animal cruelty. i do what i can where i can but and it makes a little difference. i don't take the moral high ground as i know that my argument stance would come to a stop if my family/friends etc were involved and i had to make a choice i'd say they live and stuff the animals
Incidentally Are any of these people not (former) terrorists a) Nelson Mandela b) July 7th bombers c) Anti-vivisection bombers
RE: I'm with you... Not being the violent sort Id rather try reason, but there is part of me that would like to stick the boot in -as long as its a fair trade boot mind
'aren't you almost condoning the use of violence' I certainly am, on these people treating animals like ****. I wouldn't think twice about using violence on anyone mistreating animals, lets face it, they use violence of a sort on innocent animals. I don't know if you have any pets, but if you do why not take him of her around to a animal testing company and putting them forward, afterall it's ONLY an animal. You know, like me and you!
RE: you're having a giraffe Ok then - I'll make the assumption they are treated well on the farm and you can make your assumption that they aren't!
RE: 'aren't you almost condoning the use of violence' So if you were taken aside and had the ever living **** kicked out of you for wearing clothing made by people who were exploited for profit, you'd see their point? Or is it only animals where you get moralistic?
RE: this is the bit i struggle with But I did say that I don't agree with testing for cosmetics etc but I see the need for medical research.
RE: you're having a giraffe Ermm I didnt assume anything, that was you. I said it might be the case it might not, but I didnt know as I didnt have any proof. You just said they were treated well... on what evidence?
RE: you're having a giraffe I was responding to someone who had said that they were "tortured in cages on the farm", I said that "I was sure they'd be fairly treated" - apologies I was using the word "sure" as a coloquialism (spelling?) rather that meaning I was "certain beyond all doubt". The response was that they were just being bred on the farm and not tested on in the farm. So I was saying that the farm would follow guidelines about the treatment of animals.
