Neither was the official Twitter feed which said something like 'i don't know what formation we are playing but we're going for it'
No but if we didn't hit the woodwork or have a goal disallowed we would have been two nill up and it would have been a totally different game. Sounds like Potts should have scored when he hit the side netting too. Should have been out of sight by half time.
He played 4-4-2 for about half an hour, hardly sufficient to draw any massive conclusion. My point is as someone else made - we don’t have great players, 4-4-2 is easier to coach and keep shape. 4-3-3 might create chances but we also concede readily. Up to morais, but the fact he played it, briefly, just like ph did earlier in the season, suggests to me he might have done it to appease those who wanted it. It was abandoned pretty quickly considering we weren’t behind and had created some decent opportunities, the header off the bar, Hammills cross shot, Potts hit the side netting. Wasn’t there but apparently second half, not playing 4-4-2, we were woeful.
I think people get too hooked up on formations.. they charge multiple times in a game anyway... The game is about results.. so the only question worth asking is... Is the way we play affective and does it get results.. Jose has two wins in 11 games, a less than 20 percent win rate .. so hardly. But he'll be judged on if he keeps us up or not
All these experts go on abart formations and yet no one ever mentions what formation the opposition are playing and how that impacts on our own formation
We didn’t play 4-4-2. It was more of a 4-2-3-1. McBurnie played 10 yards behind Moore and it worked against their 3-5-2 in the first half, so much so that Potts and Gardner were both getting forward and into shooting positions. Ipswich had one real opportunity of note on the counter, some slick passing and Celina blazed over when one on one. We had three or four great openings and our shooting was very ordinary to say the least. Second half Hammill swapped with McBurnie, there was still no change in pattern, we were on top and looking most likely, but then they scored from the corner and we didn’t improve, whilst they did, and they could have added to their tally once or twice on quick breaks where they had so much space out wide either flank. We looked jaded and our finishing reflected that. I don’t believe formation came into last night. I genuinely felt we came out of the traps well and should have been a couple of goals up inside half an hour. First goal was key, looking back. When we don’t get it, we don’t get results. Not much damage done however, and Saturday is now a huge fixture for both us and Bolton.
Hi YT , Are the players lacking fitness compared to the early months . Just curious , no ulterior motive .
Agree with virtually all of that, Andy. I thought McBurnie was pretty ineffective after moving wide left. Hammill seemed to create our first 3 chances. Last 10 minutes both Jackson and Lindsay played further forward, with Gardner playing at the back. This left us very vulnerable to their counter attacks.
Not from what I can see, although we are 41 games in aren’t we? So fatigue should be factored in, but 23 other clubs are in the same boat.
