Anti-lockdown protests this weekend, apparently....

I've only been twice too (well, once actually and my husband went once although I have ordered from Prime Now twice too after being at work the week before both times and not wanting to risk infecting others). I'm sure vulnerable people are only going as rarely as possible and using their brains too, unlike people attending a mass gathering whose aim is to go somewhere really busy and mingle with people.

And yet those of us concerned about the illegal and illogical lockdown which is costing lives and livelihoods are the ones who don’t value life. How ironic.

I also note the Guardian’s attempt to do a DoesThaNo and lump in everyone who objects to the most interventionist Government policy in British history as ‘the far right’ with the fruit loops and extremists. Lifelong Labour voter and remainer here. How does that fit the narrative?

And no, I won’t be at the protest, I’ll be continuing to follow the rules to the letter as I have since the start.

Three main reasons. Because it’s a disproportionate impediment to people’s fundamental rights and freedoms. They used Public Health act of 1984 legislation in order to enact the initial lockdown, and then passed further legislation specific to Coronavirus which, in many people’s view, wasn’t subject to satisfactory scrutiny through the Parliamentary process.

Thats not to mention the fact that under their own legislation they were supposed to review every 3 weeks, but they pushed it back on a whim to 4 days later with no proper justification.

None of those reasons make it illegal. They might make the actions of the government illegal if they didn't review within the time frame set by the law, but Parliament is sovereign and within the constraints of our political framework it is legal.

 

bit of a daft comparison. I don’t wish them ill but I’d they do need to access medical services as a result of their own stupidity I think it’s reasonable for them to pay rather than use the NHS

None of those things make the lockdown itself illegal. We have never actually been locked down in any meaningful sense of the word.

But yes mainly. Just giving exaggerated or extreme examples of the opposite side to see if people's opinion is still the same.
I completely disagree with a protest as regardless of whether a lockdown is correct or not even the most dead set against it people must accept that deliberate group gatherings are a bad idea.

 

I do see how pushing back the review could be illegal (although they have done it now so that's no longer an issue... until next time) but the rest isn't illegal is it? If the people who make our laws decided to make this one, then that's not illegal, whether you like the law or not.
