RE: Thanks Antony Agree totally about the Reid point - if Austin and Kay have gone, at least partly in SD's quest for "pace at the back" then FFS don't Reid and Heckingbottom make Neil and Anthony look like Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson (with drugs) in the pace stakes (not to mention their elephantine turning circles) ? Nothing against any particular player and hope all progress whether at or away from BFC but talent-wise Kay was our best owned CB, shame about the apparent discipline issues. Good luck for the future Mr Kay. Try to make sure that you learn the behavioural lessons that will help you get the most of your ability for the next few years.
He's been our best Centre Half this season. I bet he's well chuffed that he's got the boot & Reid (who I believe to be the worst centre half in this division) gets a two year deal. Don't agree with him being on the lash while we were trying to stay up ... but the fact is that he was miles better than the club captain. Here is my very accurate analysis to find out how much better Kay was: Kay: Heading - 7 Pace - 7 Strength - 7 Passing - 7 Leadership - 8 I'll have an orange juice - 0 Total = 36 / 60 Reid: Heading - 2 Pace - 1 Strength - 7 Passing - 4 Leadership - 1 I'll have an orange juice - 3 Total = 18 / 60 Basically - Kay is twice as good as Reid. It's just been proven, beyond doubt, statistically. Eat your heart out Paul D.
I'd say nearly everyone in our team gets a zero for heading, unless the target when heading a ball is to head it as far away from a Barnsley player as possible. We're absolutely shocking at passing the ball with our heads instead of just heading it into touch.
Dirk is better in the air than Paul Reid. The way Reid always insists on marking the "big man" makes me howl. 60 minutes into the game, when he's been beaten every time, he then hands them over to Kay, Hassell or Lewin. He's such a big, rough & tumble leader of a man. My sarcasm-o-meter has just melted.
If Bobby were taller than 4ft7 ... he'd be a right handfull. Great leap & timing on him for a little lad. I also think Hecky is half decent in the air - although, unfortunately for him, most of the game involves use of the feet too. Reid's best position - non-playing club captain. Davey: Right then Paul - you've been our worst centre half this season Reid: Eh? Davey: You've been rubbish - you're slow, poor in the air & have the leadership skills of the Italian pass the parcel team Reid: I've got pictures of you loving Gord Davey: Two year contract okay? Reid: And club captain Davey: Naturally Reid: Deal * they moonwalk out of Davey's office to the theme tune to Eastenders.
I would put Reid and Kay about on a par. Both are just good enough to survive at this level. When Reid play wells he is immense, but his usual standard is just good enough and his off days are terrible.
