(doh) Oh aye we've sold 12,000. Try 1,200 with 5,000 still making their minds up.

Why does Gordon Shepherd need to know anything about football?

Isn't that like saying that Simon Davey should know how to run a business?

It is vital that you understand how to make pies if you have a 'pie business' and know about Banking if you run a Bank. It is vital therefore you know about Football if you run a Football Club

It would help to be fair. I mean, your chairman has to contribute something i.e. knowledge or money. It's nice if your chairman can contribute both.

I don't doubt that Shepherd contributes decent (and I have no reason to think any more than decent and sound) financial knowledge, good at cost control, cash flow, financial stability - but football is unlike any other business, and imho it seems that Shepherd is weak on the marketing front, very poor on the PR side, and dubious on the football knowledge (I say that, but then again, I'm not inside the game so what would I know?).

I don't enjoy criticising the club, quite the opposite I promise you, but Shepherd is the worst chairman in my memory in terms of his relationship with the fans (he seems genuinely contemptuous of the supporters), and it doesn't appear that he has a good relationship with the players. I would qualify this by saying that this does not, by any means, make him the worst chairman in my memory.
