Just ignore mrx jamdrop, something serious must have happened to him in his life to make him so bitter. His sole purpose on this board is to be a twohat to as many people as possible.

How about an old people's home. Some have no family to buy them things at Christmas and all old people love smellies!

the decent thing would be to tell the kids that no presents are required , educate them that it would be better if they had spare cash to give it to someone less fortunate , peer pressure at that level is wrong and should not be encouraged , parents who cannot afford it having to do it , just so wrong in my opinion

not bitter , just hoping the younger kids would be educated to know that there are others worse off than them and that they could do something about it
this new USA thing of giving presents of no worth to someone who does not need it is a good thing at that age ? sets em up for life eh ?

There's no peer pressure, nobody discusses it beforehand, parents/kids turn up on the last day and some have presents. It's always been the same (at least for the last twenty years.) Cheap bottle of wine, box of chocs, or some smellies. Doesn't break the bank and it's a nice touch. And equally, I don't think it's "spare cash", just that person A (or the parents of) wants to show their appreciation for a job well done to person B.

I don't know how you're not getting this.

Perhaps the children see worth in it.

Of course I tell them that it's not required, I certainly don't go around asking for presents. Also, parents who can't afford it don't do it, so they don't 'have to'. I reckon about 10 kids out of 30 got me a present, it's not something they all feel they are required to do. Equally, 2 parents out of the whole school (around 400 pupils) sent in a tub of chocs for the staff room. Again, they weren't pressured into doing that, they just wanted to.

Are you purposely trying to be argumentative and antagonistic?

mrx, I have seen some of your posts, and occasionally they are intelligent and sensible.......why not build on this and add some humility?

    Just a suggestion, that's all.

Sad way of looking at a young kids life, but not a surprise from you mrx.

The actual cash input is from the parents, the thought aspect being from the kid. But I wouldn't expect you to understand the latter, despite your adult intelligence.
