    System restore should work, just restore it from day before you fecked it up. The original problem sounds like a simple file association problem which is easy to sort.

    or could download from Software4students for a few quid.

    Update.

    This has now been passed to my technical dept for further investigation.

    Installed Open Office, not too chuffed that she paid 80 quid for Office now I'm lumping her will free version.
    It had Office Student 2010 installed, did system restore and then it came with a licensing problem. F.ck sake.
    Currently chalking f.ck on it and darnloading a faulty version. Sorry, Bill.

    Try Google Docs

    Get yourself a gmail account and go to google drive. You also get 5gb of cloud storage, so if you computer blows up or you want to work from another location, your work is accessible. All the apps 'Spreadsheet' , 'Docs', 'Presentation' etc.. are available. You can also share and collaborate your work with other friends / family / workmates etc..

    Our companies just ditched Microsoft Office and moved to Google Docs... It's the future ;)
