I expected this reply.
No matter what their brief's supposed to be it'sRadio SHEFFIELD. Turning down free money and publicity is playground behaviour.

Is it **** We get next to bugger all from them in any case. If it were your personal business and they continually gave you a poor deal you would **** them off just the same.
Actually.. i was surprised.. you left yourself open to that (albeit intentionially). However, I don't disagree with your point about the publicity we will lose etc.. it's just that I think the programme has gone downhill as far as being fair and impartial to all the teams it covers.
the money is actually quite significant And the free advertising and public relations that we got from radio sheffield is quite frankly invaluable as there is NO other local radio station able or willing to give us the same FREE advertising. Sorry, it isn't free, they offered to pay to advertise us And we said no ta, pele is easier to talk to, he only says nice things
About which bit? That the money (ie the direct cash transfer between radio and club) is significant? Or about the fact that I think the free/negative cost advertising that the club recieves is invaluable? Or that I think dearne fm and pele are in no way, shape or form anywhere near as good at covering barnsley?
You aren't missing anything so erm Simon, you are excellent i know erm yes... so erm Simon, it was unfortunate that you lost 4 nil wasnt it, not your fault at all. thats right it was all down to global warming and the war in iraq erm yes.... you can take a lot of positives from the game though, odejayi only missed 6 sitters today. correct, we applied to the FA for special dispensation to have a 30foot wide net but they turned us down, if they'd allowed that then I think he would have hit the post so he is getting better. erm yes... he says erm yes a lot doesnt he.
Then I'm baffled....
...as to how you can call it a "poor deal" when an organisation gives you publicity and pays you to receive it. We can have no publicity and no money form them or some publicity and some money. What sort of businesshead thinks the latter is a poor deal?

Money for a start. As to the value of any radio coverage, that is more difficult to quantify. I doubt it attracts additional supporters through the turnstyles.
I know for a fact that regular radio coverage does indeed encourage people to go to oakwell. As proof of this just take my friend for example, last season on more than one occasion he didn't go to a game and then when it was mentioned after by me he said 'i didn't know they were playing, would have gone to that if i'd known. why don't they put it the radio anymore?' Now he is definetly not a hardcore fan but he would have gone to the odd game. As for money, I'll have a look for some figures.
They still anounce fixtures and some limited news they get indirectly in any case. As for the money its abart 10k according to GS.
So a lot of money then I thought you said it was a very poor amount, you now say it is ten THOUSAND pound. Quite a lot for a struggling business. More than it would cost to buy the entire east stand advertising boards that face the stand. Now if the figure is so unneeded then why were these boards put up?
thats a bit of a daft reason why BFc should return to radio sheffield. There are other forms of imediatley accessable medias that can tell him exactly the same.
Don't get me wrong With a bit of effort from the public they can or at least should be able to always find out the fixtures. But i'm old fashioned, I think that if a company wants to attract customers then IT does the leg work, not the potential customer (who may not have any intention of going to next saturdays game until they hear on the radio that barnsley have a full strength squad going into their match at home against top of the tabe hull (for example). Suddenly that person is thinking oh aye, that sounds ok, i'll have a bit of that.
The board are currently in talks with Radio Sheffield with a view to rectifying the situation. Hopefully they can both meet half way.
