The sad fact is that the BBC DID come half way last season They offered the already nationally agreed fee. ie the fee that the football league had agreed with the bbc
both club and the BBC have said that havent they? Both accept that the nationally agreed rate was offered and turned down
TEN THOUSAND POUNDS - SIGNIFICANT davey signed a midfielder for 50k. I think that 20% of a transfer fee is a fair amount of money to be given for free advertising
sorry mate, misread your first post - I wasn't aware that they both said this. Oh well, just hopefully it gets sorted as the main people who are suffering are me, you and another 10,000 Barnsley Fans.
As I understand it Radio Sheffield expected, at all our league games over the course of the season, to be granted access to BFC's media facilities, access to the players and manager for full-time interviews and so on. However, under the standard agreement between clubs and radio stations for such coverage, the contract value is determined essentially by the number of full match live broadcasts. Since they expect pretty much the same level of co-operation from the club, whether they actually broadcast commentary for the full 90 minutes or not, this makes little or no difference to what the club has to do to fulfil its side of the bargain. So, if Radio Sheffield were to decide to halve the number of Barnsley matches they would cover live, it would mean they reduce their payments to the club by half without affecting the service received in return. They could then choose which other of the region's clubs they divert the extra money to by covering more of their games. Last season they tried this approach and tried to give BFC the thin end of the wedge. I can see no means of protest BFC could employ, other than refusal to play along. The problem I see is neither the principle nor the money, but the lack of a contingency plan - if Radio Sheffield won't cover us, who will?
RE: Given that Seth Bennett's a Donny fan.. hardy surprising .. also Seth Bennett's a Blunt. My mate's sister was in the same class as him at school.
I think the fact that Seth was covering Donny when they got back into the league means he has a little bit of a soft spot for them, but on here , that means he should be hung, drawn and quartered.Only Giddings that is not a blunt at Radio Sheffield. Walker used to go and train with them.
Isn't the BBC fee on a match by match basis? IIRC, Radio Sheffield prefes to negotiate a "lump sum" at the start of the season (roughly in line with how many games thay "expect" to cover). Paul Walker's argument is that this allows the radio station to control their budget better - and also guarantees the club a fixed amount of money. Of course, they Radio station may cover more (or less) games than agreed without any change to the agree payment.
that's right They offered a lump sum which is what they do with the other local clubs, barnsley said no to the offer and when both sides were unable to agree a price the bbc said they would pay on a match by match basis instead at the nationally agreed price and barnsley turned that down as well.
erm barnsley said that the bbc offered them a deal lower than they wanted (because the other clubs were getting more) and the two were unable to agree a deal. they said that they then turned down the match by match. bbc said that they offered them a deal lower than barnsley wanted (because other clubs were getting more) and the two were unable to agree a deal. they said that they then turned down the match by match. From reading and listening to what they both said, I just said that the bbc offered a deal for the season like other clubs have, barnsley wanted more , after being unable to agree a deal the bbc offered the match by match fee and were turned down. I really don't know where I got that from. Oh yeah I do. both of them said it.... you don't need to be a dead old bloke with a tash to work it out
RE: As I understand it There was also some advertising charges that Radio Sheffied used to pay to advertise around the ground. Spartacus is right though, the money is insignificant (The offer was around 7K I beleive). Patrick Cryne's comments were something along the lines that 7k a year was way too little for all the argro Radio Sheffield chuck in the clubs direction. Its as much about Radio Sheffield's biased reporting and attitude as it is about the reduced offer made. I suspect it would take a change in personell and/or attitude at Radio Sheff before the stance will change which is a shame because we really do need to be on there. As biased as Radio Sheffield may be on occasion and as peed off with them you may be, they do offer the best quality local sports shows and they do offer us great exposure locally.
radio sheffield are too much aggro. they ask hard questions and arent always up the clubs arse. bring in dearne fm and you might as well have rob knowles doing the radio report. ie we lost 17 nil in a game we dominated and had it not been for the fact that their stand had green paint on it which confused us we would have won
