He's not raw. He's an accomplished Championship defender. He's also 27 in a few weeks so you can stop trying to fool yourself that a buying club would be taking a punt on him with a view to bringing him on over the next few years. If a club pays £5m for a centre-back who is nearly 27 and only has one year on his contract it's because they think he's a bloody good defender.
I fully agree with buying potential but that doesn't mean we have to shop in the 100k to the 500k range almost every time. There are 1 million pound potential players. 10 million pound potential transfers 30M in Renato Sanches transfer and the 50M transfer of John Stones would have been on potential. I say this all the time on here but to move the club on imo we need to be buying more expensive players.
It's a veiled dig. It's called fishing. In fact, you stay pal ........... I'll do the runner. Chatting online to kids through a week, I might as well hop across to the CBeebies forum.
Maybe not reached his peak as a player, time will tell, but a great defender. Brave, quick, strong and an animal in the air. Certainly not raw. I bet bradshaw really looks forward to facing him next season. Only one winner there. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
To be fair though, a ball-playing centre half is a good shout. Much as I love Robbo and Gus, they're both quite old skool in their style. A ball-player alongside Gus could massively improve the dynamic of the side. Providing he can defend of course. I'm assuming that's what Lindsay has been brought in for.
I'm sure in an ideal world we would be signing more expensive players, but the fact is we can't really afford to. Our business model is built on buying young players, developing them and then selling them on. If we buy cheaply then if it fails to come off (e.g. Jennings, Lee, potentially Kpekawa) then we don't lose much. If we pay high fees and they turn out to be crap then we've spent a lot of money and wages for no return. I'm happy to see us being run on the basis of low risk moderate reward rather than high risk high reward, which has been the undoing of many football clubs over the last 15 years.
I completely agree with this. Also a defender who can defend against crosses from tbe wing rather than head on defending that both Gus and Robbo excel at.
you are obsessed. Honestly, if you don't like what I'm putting don't read it. I put this on to find out what people thought. I personally thought 2 million a brilliant fee. To look at it another way that's the sort of initial fee's we've got for the likes of J Stones and M Holgate in the last 5 years. Or 4 Vaz Te's.
You hate Heckingbottom You hated Hourihane You hate Roberts You hated Hassell You hated Foster You hated Steele You hate the media team Who is on your list for the 2017/18 season?
We are spending a bit more money now. Still nothing like other clubs of course but with money brought in we can afford to sign slightly more expensive players within our remit. £1 million isn't much these days so if we find a player we really like it would be worth splashing out a bit more because that amount could go up 10 times in a couple of years. That said, spending big money does not always guarantee success, and vice versa; look at Angus
Plenty of interest in yiadom aswell with qpr reading swansea all keen on the former barnet man. What would you valuation of AY be just out of interest?
