RE: They are Buzzards; haven't been seen for over a hundred years in this area but are spreading across the country; much to the consternation of the well educated game keepers who shoot them on sight. In Cornwall they are quite common and seem to exist alongside the country sports people quite harmoniously. Birds of prey (raptors) are being persecuted mercilessly in the north by prejudiced and narrow minded 'country' people who know little, if anything., of their habits. Pole traps and poisoning are still used (illegally) to kill all and any raptors, as well as owls and crows, wherever game birds are reared for shooting ( and the pleasure this gives people).
