Anyone else find the idea of 215 live games on Sky off putting?

No but they are giving people the option of watching them for much cheaper via sky sports than going to games which will dramatically reduce attendances
They are also making it much easier to become an armchair fan of a big club than being a supporter of your local club which again will dramatically reduce attendances.
And it means that a casual Barnsley fan who also likes football in general can watch 10 games in a week of random teams then it gets to Saturday and they think "nah ya know what, I've seen enough football this week I can't really be arsed with any more" and not bother going down to oakwell. Again reducing attendances.

So no, nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head but what is happening is it's being made so easy to watch so many games that actually driving to oakwell and paying isn't a priority anymore. Which in turn means buying refreshments doesn't happen, buying shirts doesn't happen, getting that person's kids into Barnsley doesn't happen. It's a pretty fast downward spiral.

Football teams WILL go under because of this, I've absolutely no doubt about it. And the ones that survive will do so with much heavier losses than they used to have.

Can only hope that bfc with it's massive losses isn't one of the clubs that it sends under

 

Exactly this. In days gone by it was a big deal to be on TV. Barnsley were on and there'd be a 2 hour build up. People in the town were interviewed about their chances, a feature on our towns history would be shown, it all felt a bit special.
These days we have been on sky and I genuinely haven't even known about it till the day after the match because it means absolutely nothing. Sky don't even try, there's no build up, no analysis, they don't even bother sending commentators to oakwell these days. It's just a load of low quality, high volume, output pumped out without a second thought.

When Rotherham were on TV I used to watch their matches, or even the two dee dar teams. Or the massive man utd would be on sky and I'd think ooo that'll be a good game, I'll watch that.
Now I scroll the channels, might flick over the sports channel and just think meh, another game, I don't fancy watching man united for the 12th time this week.

Football on TV used to be special. Now it's turned into under the hammer. Nothing but low quality filler

There is, you're right. It's all linked too. The dodgy stick only has a feed because of the greed that clubs had wanting to milk a few extra quid. They've brought it all upon themselves because they've killed their attendances

 

After 26 years with sky i have kicked them into touch. 35% increase on the tv packages and broadband. Their usual game is to then drop the price so you are led to believe 15% increase is a bargain.

 

To be fair, everything’s increased in every aspect of life and business. I disagree with how much they charge some folk but you can’t expect them not put their prices up when wages/NI/their running costs have all gone up too.

I have some customers moan about paying too much when they pay £75 a month for everything (sport/cinema/ultimate tv and broadband), which is very discounted. There’s two solutions, either cut down the package or leave tbh. As someone who knows their systems they will exhaust all possible discounts they can before saying they can’t do it anymore.

 

I was same with Virginmedia. Quoted my package renewal up to £172 per month. Fůck that.
