In fairness they made a valid point. You said the prospect of going to match was making you cross, it was suggested you might save yourself some angst by not going.

Unless they're wearing bright baggy clothes, a big red nose, blue curly wig and are doing juggling badly, in which case I misunderstood.

If people are getting no joy whatsoever from going to the matches i don't know why they're bothering.

If that was the case, we'd have 4000 home fans every week

I'm not that's 100% accurate if we are being honest. Why would people continue to do something in their spare time that they don't get anything but misery from?

Don't see the point at all.

It's the hope, and the knowledge that even in the worst of seasons, the law of averages says that on at least one occasion you'll see a great winning performance. It's also the fact that many of us have already paid, so we may as well go. Add to that the fun we have meeting our mates who sit around us, and it's clear that there are several reasons to go.

However, because winning football matches is not the main objective of the club, I can understand why a lot of people can't be arsed.

Exactly this. At the end of the day its a form of entertainment, yes there are reasons of identity and belonging wrapped around it too. If you don't morally believe in the ownership, if you don't enjoy the football on offer... why go through the misery?

You wouldn't go and watch the worst film you've ever seen every weekend of the year.

Tbf some people get enjoyment from moaning non stop throughout a match and abusing certain players, all the officials and the manager !

Ill be going to those too. Haven't missed a Saturday home game this season but haven't seen a home game on any other day. Evening games are a non starter for me and Sundays are really inconvenient - sometimes I could make them but couldn't make the ones we've played so far. The Leeds one particularly annoying as I was up in Wombwell on the Saturday and could have even gone to a lunchtime kick off but had to be back in Farnham Sunday due to something arranged long before the game was moved

Exactly these are all good reasons to go, seeing your mates especially because you're going to have a laugh together even if the on pitch performance is rubbish because that's just what happens when you're surrounded by mates.

Strangely I don't feel apathy in the ground or when the match is on tv or whilst watching Jeff on sky. The apathy is always before or after a match. I don't know whether that's just my competitive nature or OCD. I am more relaxed though surrounded by mates. The defeats seem to hurt more on your own.

Thinking back there have only been four saturday home games so far and we're in November. It's shocking really.

That would suggest that some people ARE actually getting joy from the games

I'm certainly not, I can't remember when I wanted to go home with 15 minutes or more left of the game like I have this season.

I'm still going though. I live in hope that we might win a game, but I've no confidence in those running the show. None at all.

We'll beat Stoke and Hull City in our next two after tonight. They haven't won a game in all comps since I last attended :D

Sounds like Stoke will have a new manager, so scrap that idea.

I think this season beats Wilson's second spell (just), that was turgid and not fun to watch. I still look forward to each game this season prior to the game, it just depends how long into the game that lasts!

I can honestly say I haven't seen any dross as yet. However, my enthusiasm towards a good game of football is tainted by the negative results.

My memories of the Wilson tenure are a bit jaded. Some of the games that stand out are the 1-0 defeat at Preston, when James Bailey played as badly as I've ever seen a professional play. 0-0 at Fleetwood when they footballed us to death, and also Donny away when we'd just signed Scowen but he didn't come off the bench. Did Holgate get sent off?

I don't see this as being as bad in terms of football. We've plenty of energy and get into some good positions, but the frustration of missing chances and gifting them to the opposition is the problem.
